Lets speak about Mentor's.

I think the mentor requirement is fine as it is. changing it wont fix bad mentors.

Personally I view my mentor crown as the responsibility it is and always try and be as helpful as possible to new players, and at the very least never mean. the only thing which will fix bad mentors is more people adopting that viewpoint.

Simple fix. Mentor status is $14.99 in the mog station. That way only people who truly want it, will be one. Put your money where your mouth is. If you can't afford it, then your priorities likely mean you can't devote time to mentoring in the first place. Issue will sort itself out.

If you have money wouldn’t that mean you probably worked which is a time devotion? I wouldn’t be able to afford it because I’m a broke student but trust me I have the time for it. That wouldn’t solve the issue then it turns into who has money to throw around. Bullshit solution!

Ok, I have read through many mentor threads. I am one, but that doesn't define me. I know i am not an expert in tthis game. I mean, after being in 1.0 beta through today, I am still learning and doing new things in this game. What is a mentor really? I have been playing 2.0 since beta, i don't claim to know everything, and I am not elitist, but I read the strife between the Fairie NN and this thread, it seems the NN needs a change. I am lucky that my server has an awesome NN, but I do think we need to change the requirements for it. Being lvl 60 in everything is easy now that you can purchase it. True mentors should have level 70's in every group, have run expert roulettes, even subscribed to the game for a certain amount of time but we shouldn't have this division. Can we all just get along? Even before this network was active, I was helping new players, is there another way to help new players? I like the NN, but hate the controversy it is causing

Its a drama started on the forums and isn't really that important. Just about every other MMO has a Newbie chat and they don't have threads and threads about it. We shouldn't either.

If people stopped putting unrealistic expectations on mentors there wouldn’t be issues. There are going to be bad mentors and good mentors, they are only humans behind the screens. Are all teachers good? No! Stop blaming mentors for everything and giving them unrealistic expectations.

That's guaranteed to make sure only the bad mentors are Mentors. Being a Mentor is basically volunteer work. If you can't run the mentor roulette, it's also, for the most part, a thankless job. But between the shade we get from people expecting us to go anywhere from explaining in excruciating detail things we might not remember because we don't live the game, to outright carrying them, no one would pay, least of all that much, to be put in that position. It's like paying Square for something they have to lure us to in the first place with all the awards and bonuses. I wouldn't have done it and I consider myself a decent Mentor.
You know who would sink that cash? People who want to wear it as a status symbol to stroke their epeens and don't actually give a damn about helping people.

didn't read the whole thread but, i think to solve these "mentor issues" on other servers (and these were probably already stated on a previous post or thread) is that SE should put up a global/server chat and separate the helping chat/mentor+newbie chat. also reduce or remove the mentor rewards to make being a mentor purely voluntary work or if not that, then something like a voting system where newbies can vote for the most helpful mentor and the said mentor would get some cosmetic and/or non-advantage giving rewards based on that or maybe a title like "mentor of the month/week/etc.".

Wow some of these posts.. So because I am a mentor and on top of that have mental problems in real life I am automatically a bad person? ö_Ö Run for your lives everyone, I am coming to get you!

A bit more serious: I had my fair share of bad mentors and even though I am one myself, the crown symbol makes one judge a person a bit harder because they stand out. In the end I still had enough of bad runs and bad players that did not have the symbol so its not the mentor itself that is the problem but mentors will just simply be remembered more.

In the end thanks to quite the hate I barely have my symbol on. I did not do it for bragging rights and even before that I was often the one explaining things in instances. But sadly some bad apples make all of us look bad. Also on top of that I cant truly do the mentor roulette. I wish I could help out people in dungeons or content that is needed for the main story but since I did not beat all of the HW primals I am not allowed to do the roulette. And lets be honest, I dont feel like doing it thanks to the primals alone. I can be quite patient if I see that people are trying but teaching someone extreme primals synch is not something easy.

So it would be nice if SE took those out of it and maybe only put those stuff in there, that is needed to finish the story.
