This would be the best thing to do but just thinking it probably won't work. First that dye job had stats related to it, so if you undye something before 1.20 will the upgraded stats be removed?
Also in the background I am pretty sure bleaching something would be the same as dyeing something which is currently a restriction on the engine currently being used. All releaved in 2.0 which I hope we do have a bleach option with the ability change the color.
No color should be a color choice if you want it.

YES I CAN HAVE MY GREEN GEAR AGAIN (assuming they're adding lots more colors this patch)
I hope there are more colors coming out.
I know Yoshi mentioned something like 32 color's at one point... I'd settle for a dozen

The "idiots" at SE are trying to not make crafters even less relevant than they already are. You don't need a crafter to repair anymore, unless it's 100%. If you didn't need them to dye things then all they would do is make undyed gear and that would be the end of it. That would be the one and only reason to ever take up a crafting class. While that's still a pretty good reason, the current crafters would not be happy about it as it would take away yet another bit of their functionality.right that is what i'm saying, it looks like crafters will go back to making like 10pieces of gear all different colors to put up in wards, or we start to make undyed and take shouts for people who want them died but again it's a broken system. just let the non crafters dye them after they buy them, not the other way around, it just seems like way more work and maybe even a ploy for players to buy way more retainers for bazar space later on. it's the only reason i can see why the idiots at se would make it this way again.
Question... Can you Dye gear that has Materia Attached to it? For example i have a Cobalt Plate belt with +15 Enmity on it. With the new Dye system can i Dye it black and still have the Materia on it?
@ coloring gear: You normally needed a dye and another item to upgrade the gear to what you wanted...now it's going to be the item only and not the dye...the dyeing part will be separate from that process or perhaps not but the color itself will have nothing to do with the upgrading part of the process. So you will still get the stats based on what you are actually trying to upgrade to. After that is done then you would make a decision on what color you want it to be and then dye it. If color must be decided during the upgrade process then so be it but you can make it plain colored also. Do not insert materia until this whole process is done.
@ already colored gear: Will still retain its stats and has to remain its current color. At the bottom of that post it states that v2.0 will be when they introduce the ability to change colors without affecting anything else on the gear.
@ dye prices going up: If people are seriously retarded and crazy about making a fashion statement then yes they will go up for the time being. Seeing as how the stats are linked to the upgrade and not the color though I see a serious decline in price after a month of the "coloring craze". The market for dyes will probably fall off in about 3 days and the price will plummet to 500-1000 gil tops...paying more than that would be the fault of seriously lazy people who don't know where their gathering tools are.
All kinds of potential to fix alchemist up in this, probably just gonna be how it is now though. Suits me fine I aint an alchemist. That said dyeing and making fine looking gear is what I play crafting classes for- theres an accomplishment in "I made something that looks somewhat cool." I dont make subligars anymore.
