That was true at first, but hasn't been for a long time now. People were able to snipe maintenance in that small window, but after awhile that dried up. People that camped those maintenances still failed. It's been a long, long time since anyone's been able to make a new toon/alt on Balmung. After awhile people gave up, made the characters on other servers and just paid for the transfers.
That wasn't the point of my post. My point was simply, having the servers locked to new characters, but open to transfers made SE a lot of $$$. If their currently locked servers were capable of supporting more characters, you better believe SE would go right back to that. The fact that they have not says something.

I and many others created alts on gilgamesh a few weeks before stormblood came out and perma locked. So I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Considering how many people took advantage of the free transfer, I'm not sure why you're assuming they couldn't unlock the server if they wanted to. There are tons of things they could do to make money (raise prices of server transfers, fantasia, retainers, add jump potions for crafting/gathering jobs, etc etc) and they don't.
Apparently that was a difference between Balmung and Gilgamesh. It was like that on Balmung for awhile. Even without maintenance, you could frequently squeak a character in around 3am EST. But there came a point where that dried up, where it all dried up, and for months prior to the absolute lockdown people were completely unable to create new toons/alts there, leaving paid transfer the only option. I assumed Greg experienced the same thing, but apparently you all never got that last noose tightening prior to the final, complete lockdown.I and many others created alts on gilgamesh a few weeks before stormblood came out and perma locked. So I'm not sure what you're talking about.

All I was saying is, SE would make more money if Greg was at least open to transfers. From a financial standpoint I'd have to think SE would want Greg opened as soon as possible. If they haven't yet, I'd think there has to be some reason, because otherwise it's lost revenue. What that reason is though, I can only speculate. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it opened. As I noted earlier in the thread, I have friends there, I know what it's like, and how having it opened could really help them.
