I Alliance DR'd into Dun Scaith on my MCH. Got to Doom Gaze. I died to Doom because neither Healer Esuna'd off the debuff. I asked if they had Esuna. One was "Nope, sorry ^^;" response which I was okay with - mistakes happen.

The other? "sorry, too busy DPSing". Well, really now?

Okay.. Also at least half the alliance died to mechanics during the fight and a SAM was tanking 75% of Doom Gaze. I see it's gonna be one of those runs.

Friend's on Discord: "Hey, want to raid on FF:RK?"

Me: "You know, why not? I don't even know if the tanks know how to pick up add during the third boss.." *Drops FFXIV Raid to Raid on FFRK*

Yep, that's my story. *Explodes Garuda on FF:RK*

All this tank talk reminds me of when I was just starting out. This was way back in like 2.2. I picked Gladiator because it looked cool. All fun and games until Satshasa. I tanked in WoW a little and Eden Eternal, I had the general idea of my role. But it was still my first dungeon of the game and I was nervous. And I had to get the three biggest assholes in Aether. They were constantly pulling, not healing, and giving no advice while yelling that I was doing it wrong. Really soured my outlook on tanking for this game. I went and unlocked arcanist and played it for the rest of ARR.

PLD is still one of my least favorite classes to play because of that. It's a shame, because I do love tanking. DRK is one of my favorite classes.

Just got out of The Aetherochemical Research Facility. I went in to do a quick run for Poetics and some Light, only for it not to be as quick. I went as PLD, healer was SCH, and DPS were MCH and SAM. I do the first big pull, popping CD's to not die. I hear the MCH using their AoE and keep holding hate. When I see things dying slowly, I look over at the SAM. They are only doing single target kills. Usually, I don't have a problem with that if the mob is only 3 or less. But with 6, all the AoE would be greatly beneficial. I ask if the SAM wants me to pull less, and of course they don't respond. I even waited at least a minute in case they were on PS4. So the dungeon goes slowly as the SAM single targets everything. Then we get to the 2nd boss. They don't look away from Petrafaction, and don't get in the circle to keep the bound person(which happened to be on the healer) from not taking a ton of damage. So I stood in the circle to keep our healer safe, only for the AoE blast to target them. I Covered the healer(not really used often, but I do when I want someone to not take damage), and we pressed on. At the final boss(Phase 2), everyone but me forgets to get into the Void Gates to not get afflicted with bad stuff. First time around is okay, AoE lines don't really target anyone. 2nd time after the Void Gates, all three lines target the healer. I know what I had to do. I quickly used Cover to keep the healer from taking damage, however dying in the process. They Swiftrez me and we finish the fight. I waited around until everyone left, only to get no comms for my heroic sacrifice.

Yesterday got that nice feeling of being trolled as "target to ignore" when I were the only healer alive of a 8-man party dying on every-little-thing, with almost 0 mana because all the resses done, and struggling to keep alive the only 2 people that seems know what to do and securing the kill.

And as final bonus a 0 comm.

    Ahhh the feeling

Edit: the 2 ppl were one tank and one dps. The other tank were thinking it is a good idea to do his dps in front of the boss, eating all and every cleave and skill, making me to point heal two targets instead of one. Yesss, healing so boring that finally someone gives me more work to do. The other healer was unexistant, dying on every thing happens, feels he wants suicide every time it is possible.

Ok so i recently became a mentor because deep inside my cold icy heart I actually do like helping a few sprouts and new players from time to time, besides it's really easy to get and since I already met the requirements I thought why not, it won't hurt anyone.
    Well apparently I was wrong.

I went into PotD to level SMN, haven't played it in a while (and it's not like I was ever good at it to begin with, I just really like the job gear) so I kinda just hit some buttons while the monsters die at a fairly fast pace, the run isn't going horribly but apparently that's not good enough for our BLM who starts flaming me for every little thing I do wrong just because I'm a mentor, like being one doesn't mean I know how to play every single job in the game AFAIK, I'm sorry for taking a split second longer than I should have to rez you when we had a WHM in our party...
Plus it's pretty funny to hear stuff like this from someone who seems to not have Enochian on their hotbar but ya know.

Guess I need to start making a habit of turning the stupid crown off just in case I get people like him in my party.

I found out today, that healing in Rabanastre is the most difficult godsdamned thing on the planet when your co-healer refuses to even heal themself when they're low on HP. You'd think an AST in Noct Sect would be capable of using Aspected Benefic, but nooooo.

Had an... interesting run through Quarn (normal) the other night. I was working on my GC hunting log so I could rank up, and I just had to kill some things in Qarn to finish it. Now, I'd only run through Quarn once before about a month and a half ago or so, so I didn't remember all the mechanics. But I didn't remember it being all that bad the first time, so I figured "what the heck! I'm sure it'll all come back to me as I go through. The rest of the party will probably know the dungeon pretty well too, right?" ...Wrong. We didn't have anyone new to the dungeon, but everyone else forgot about everything too. On top of that, I was probably the only one who was comfortable playing their job initially. First tank was getting chewed up faster than our WHM could heal him. WHM himself said he was learning the job still, which is understandable of course. The SAM pretty much said nothing through the whole thing, but I suspect she was learning the job too. Wiped a few times to the first boss while everyone was remembering how the Doom mechanic worked.

Tank bailed, and we waited outside the boss room for the new tank, a PAL. We let her know where we were at and waited for her to catch up. Luckily, she seemed to have a very good memory of the dungeon. We did end up wiping again while the other two were still having troubles, and someone initiated a vote duty abandon (the SAM, I'm guessing). Now, at this point I was pretty tired so I figured I'd vote yes and requeue if the majority felt like doing the same. But it didn't go through. The tank was determined to help see us through, and I can only guess the healer must have decided to stick around. Tank had us run through the problems we'd had with the boss (mine were mostly getting slaughtered when the tank dies). I offered some encouragement of my own while throwing a couple emotes in. Went back in and FINALLY killed the first boss.

Now the rest of the dungeon we didn't have any more significant issues, but I'm pretty sure the SAM was a bit ticked to still be in there. Understandable, certainly. However, I could tell it was also at this point when she just stopped trying altogether, most likely trying to get herself kicked. She kept wandering off before pulls and, during the second boss, it was noticeably taking a lot longer to kill off than it should have. While keeping my eye out for the mechanics, I could tell the tank was doing her thing while dealing what damage she could. Healer was working hard to keep her and everyone else alive. But the SAM? I spotted her circling the edge of the room slowly, not anywhere near within range of the boss. Which left me to do the bulk of the damage. I've never initiated a player kick before, and I didn't feel like starting then, though I was definitely tempted. Honestly, I could have just left and requeued since at that point I wouldn't have been penalized. But I didn't want to subject the tank and healer to that when I could tell they were working hard to get through. Tbh I don't know why the SAM didn't just leave herself, unless she thought she'd still get penalized. No one said anything about it though, and we kept going. Luckily by the third boss she was ready to contribute to the fight again after probably realizing she wasn't going to get kicked.

At the end of it all, it took probably close to 45 minutes just to get through it all. The tank, the healer, and I stuck around a bit at the end to talk a bit. It was pretty obvious the healer was glad to have the support he got from us while he was learning his job. I actually ended up really liking the tank for being as helpful and optimistic as she was, and she definitely earned my comm. Also ended up adding both of them as friends too.

So to summarize: Cons of the run - frustrating and exhausting, and I got really ticked when Qarn popped for the leveling roulette last night (even though it went significantly better that time)
Pros of the run - Finished my hunt log so I could unlock squadrons, and I made a couple new friends.

Ran The Vault tonight as a SCH with a PUG.

Tank was going fast and picking a lot of enemies but nothing I couldn't handle. And honestly he was doing a great job.

The 2 DPS on the other hand....oh boy. They were eating every AOE possible, especially the black mage (how unusual).

I almost wanted to tear my hair out and scream at the top of my lungs at the risk of awakening the whole house during the last boss battle.

The horse monsters that walk in a straight line ? Didn't move.
    Fire AOE ? Didn't move
    Chains ? GUESS WHAT

The fight ended with me and the tank killing what was left of the boss....but holy ***t

So much this. I got Sophia EX as PLD in a roulette once. I've only cleared it once as DPS, let alone tanked it, mostly because I despise the trials and the elitists who demand absolute perfection from people who have never done an instance before, and they proceed to bag on you for every single thing.

Yeah to me a mentor crown ought to represent:

    1. Having played enough to know the basics of the game, but is not necessarily an expert at every job or instance or questline
    2. Wanting to help others and is willing to be patient with those still learning/returning (doesn't mean putting up with abuse though or outright demonstrations of apathy/refusal of effort)
    3. Willing to be an example, even if it means asking for help or patience in addition to offering it

The mentors-are-@#$% horror stories tend to be fails mostly for #2, whereas the being-a-mentor-is-@#S% horror stories tend to come from others not understanding/agreeing with #1 and #3

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.
