The Chat log is one of the only thing that is directly connected to the server and transmits real-time informations. Therefore is the best tool to check for Ifrit's attacks like Eruption and sh*t.
For everything else, just check if Ifrit is doing a Swipe! Everytime he does that, the next attack could be a TP move!

lol My chat log once said ifrit was doing an eruption after the explosion happened. The chat log is not immune to lag. The UI in general is full of lag.The Chat log is the only thing that is directly connected to the server and transmits real-time informations. Regardless, chat log or poses, it doesn't matter. I never get hit by eruption from looking at poses, these guys use the chat log. Those of you who are looking at the cracks are doing it wrong. Save that for porn.
.....omfg...... seriously amazing............ she is amazing! if you know her tell her that is f*cking awesome.
'the hell? There's something wrong with your chatlog then. There's only one filter that needs to be activated for the Ifrit battle (here I have my tab called IfriTron® which only detects when he readies his TP moves). Try to do that, and you'll see that the chat log isn't laggin'.
But like you said, if you're moving one second after seeing a crack under your feet you're best to cast a Sentinel instantly or take all the damage, because you'll not have enough time.
See here's another thing. While that's all well and good for some people here, obviously with what I stated earlier that's not going to work for me. I am running on a laptop, in windowed mode, with low FPS and not much screen real estate. Why bother filling up more real estate with another window when I can obviously see when he's going to do an attack?'the hell? There's something wrong with your chatlog then. If it works for you, fantastic. I am in the process of building a computer so eventually I won't have to deal with the low FPS and small real estate again; however, considering the pose method works equally well (if not moreso) plus the fact that it doesn't take as much room, I don't even see how it matters as there is no dice to the argument. He crouches, you move, cracks will happen in 1-2 seconds.
Well then, I thought this topic had run its course.
For the new faces I want to remind you, while the bulk of the thread might be lol suck less, That was not the original intent nor was it intended to be a rant on the ifrit encounter its self, though once again some people took it to be that.
It was and is simply a call to lay off things like eruption going forward or at least to use such danger zones in a way that is sensible for the current environment that we are all facing. Try to frame conversation with in that.
Giving tips on how to deal with what we are facing is welcome but try to keep things civil.
I agree there are many worth while personal skills that are essential if not requisite for big fights.
How ever its my personal belief that reacting in a manor that boarders on precognition should not be one of them. Going forward it does not have to be that way.
Thank you all and have a nice day.
