My ping was good was good when it was in Montreal and now its 140, higher than on the euro data center.
Maybe I should transfer there, even though i'm north american.
Better routing won't change shit, north america is huge, data center had to be in the middle.

There's a reason why topics like net neutrality is a huge topic in the US. It isn't a secret that North American ISPs are scummy as hell and that NA internet infrastructure is way, WAY behind much of the rest of the developed world, even disregarding the fact that the US alone is much larger than, say, Japan/Korea. When there's no competition in much of the US in terms of ISPs, there's no reason for them to improve our routing for our little games. Instead, they're spending their efforts on constantly looking for new ways to gouge us out of our money for the least amount of effort involved.

Google Fiber causes the ISPs to shat out bricks and magically provide better service wherever they announce they're moving in for a reason.

It's unlikely SE even knew about how NA routing works from how the server move went. It was probably just much cheaper to maintain the servers in Sacramento CA (especially since the company where the NA data centers are housed was bought out by SE shortly before the server relocation), and that's it. Moving the servers to say, Chicago, would have improved the experience for everyone overall, but it would have far less to do with the distance and much more to do with how routing works throughout all of the US.

Obviously not, there is no reason to ever improve the routing, he's the one that mentioned routing, not me, which is a good reason the servers shouldn't be west coast, they did that to save money, not quality, like I said foreign players are second class to them.

This second class thing is silly. If anything, your own ISP sees you as second class, seeing as how they don't want to provide you with even decent service other than for visiting webpages and streaming. Routing in a network is important. Who's to say even if they put the servers in Chicago there wouldn't still be routing issues causing high ping?

Australia/Oceania wants a localised server too. NA already has a server in NA, but Aussies have to use off-shore servers to play. With how fights are nowadays, higher ping is atrocious. Either Square can make fights more lenient on higher pings, or make more servers for people so it is more fun for everyone.

EDIT: Blizzard has had east and west coast servers since vanilla WoW, I don't see why Square couldn't keep that Canadian server AND the new west coast server.

So, the datacenter in Montreal was actually getting to the point where it was unsafe to operate. They were having overvoltage issues and other problems. It was actually hosted at an SE office if I remember right.

Because SE takes all the profits from XIV to put into other projects/pockets, (it's also the reason the dev team for xiv is extremely small) compared to Blizzard who fully support their MMO with a large dev team and more money put into it.

I'd be happier knowing that money made by FFXIV was going towards a new Tactics game or other FF titles, not some dumb unrelated mobile ventures.
