Yep that's part of the whole 2.0 package. I am no expert, novice, or even an enthusiast regarding things like this but if i were to hazard a blind shot in the dark as to the issue. I would think it might be something along the lines that the client is sending a request saying "Is it ok if i do this?" then the server pings back "saying yes that's fine or no that's not". instead of the client saying i have done this.

Just consider for a second that the potency/frequency of Eruption was diminished, wouldn't it become less challenging? I really think the Ifrit battle is great way to convey to players how well they can take down one common enemy but depend on themselves. I have never fought in a MMO battle where that kind of challenge was presented to me (outside of low-manning). But yea, I have fought in countless fights where there is a tank..and some DD poke the mob and the mages support...
I will agree that the Hard mode ifrit battle is probably one of coolest and most intense battles i have taken part of in a mmo to date. Definitely one of the top fights in all of final fantasy history. I have definitely not called for a nerf to the ifrit fight all though some posters seem to think that. Just a bit of extra thought put towards how some elements are utilized down the road in future big fights given the state of things.

Doing a bit of what if here, but if the eruptions were a bit more static in nature much like the plumes it would be much less of an issue. If instead of the eruptions popping up under seemingly random players, if every one knew going in that eruption meant damage zones popping up depending on Ifrits positioning then yes, even with the current situation, that would mostly be a l2p thing.

I guess threads like this make me nervous is all.. I don't want the Dev team to get the wrong impression from the player base and then sacrifice their creativity just to cater to the noisy group. You are a sensible guy, I don't mean to hurt you specifically by that statement either. Just in the future I would love to take part in more interesting challenges like this one and by no means want to limit the Dev's imagination.
I dig where your coming from pan, and no worries.

Every time I see people say/post they cannot win because of their 'lag' I am reminded of this one individual in the LS I'm in. When he started joining us for Ifrit he would continuously die of cracks and kept blaming his lag. But then over time (probably took him 20 or so fights, lol) he was dodging everything like a ninja! So in my experience, this issue feels more like an excuse from the player rather than a game flaw.
Glad to hear he was able to overcome the odds! And you are right there are far to many people who will far to quickly point to an outside source as to why they cant do x or y. It took me a long time to get to the point i was at when i made this post. I hate backing down from a fight, fair or otherwise. I just finally got to point where i had to step back and call a bit of shenanigans given how things are.

Thank for posting this, Griss. I've been too lazy to take screens myself on this very issue. As anyone can clearly see, the character wasn't anywhere near the eruption but still took damage. This is a problem.

I have seen this issue first hand and it can be very frustrating with animation lag. On my screen i will be out running fellow DD's or Mages and i get hit while they don't. Even one time everyone in our pt got hit from eruptions that werent anywhere near us for the entire fight. That was a little funny. The animation would start on the other side of the map and so no one would move and everyone got hit lol. And the best was when a mage d/c'd while they were hit with the fire blast aoe attack and when they logged in they were on the other side of the ring of fire and could run around and heal. But ifrit was able to send eruptions out of the ring but nothing else would hit that player.

But i digress. I am not sure if its just server lag or just my slow computer bc i know a lot of ppl that say they dont have any problem of the sort. While some others do. I would love to see if its actually computer processing or really server lag that is killing everyone.

I have come up with some ways of working around my lag so i am more like 50/50 about getting hit. but i am still no where close to perfection and i have had over 50 attempts so far with ifrit with about 15 actual wins. So i am not a veteran nor a newb.

Animation lock though is my worst concern for this fight. try keeping a tank alive when u have to send out a cure 3 and have 3 eruptions under ur feet that pop up during mid cast. >.< or doing a tp attack that lasts a while then ifrit decides to jump and ur in the middle of the map.

I used to be like you.

Then I realized how to not suck.

I used to blame every loss/death on lag, then after realizing how to do the fight properly and how to recognize stuff, I will die maybe once out of every 10 fights now. I very rarely fall into yellow HP on this fight now. It's not lag. It's rarely lag. Sure lag will get you killed, but there are some things to keep in mind.

    1) Don't look at the ground. Eyes on Ifrit at all times. You are not looking for cracks or plumes. You are looking at his pose patterns. If he begins to crouch, start running, cracks will appear. If he bends over and reaches up, plumes are appearing. Plumes are nothing anyway because if your tank is doing his or her job, you will never be hit by them no matter what anyway.

    2) Never ever use a job ability or weapon skill until Ifrit does.

If you can follow the above two, it doesn't matter how much lag you have you'll be fine. I am playing on a laptop at like 8 FPS at times and have a shitty university connection and again I rarely get hit by anything. If I can do it, anybody here can do it unless you're on dial-up or some shit.

Learn to do the fight and stop blaming lag, it's unbecoming.
Yea gais, let's ignore an existing problem. Good suggestions come from tough people right! Seriously though, the server animation lag is annoying.

I'm not saying ignore the problem, I'm saying there's nothing they can do about it for now but gather info (they're doing this) and players to play smart, as there is a way to beat Ifrit, with the game in its current state. From my post, I just wanted to highlight that even the people with the worst lag (EU players), we're still able to win the fight.

Did you read what I posted?

Did you even understand what I said?

Obviously not. Lag happens. It exists. That happens to even me. If you follow what I said, it doesn't matter how much lag you can possibly have, you will not get hit. What you see on your screen is not what's happening on the server. When you move on your screen, it takes 1 second for the server to understand you moved. When cracks appear on your screen, they were already on the server for 1 second. So, you basically have 2 seconds of "dead time" you need to consider. If you focus on Ifrit's poses and not the cracks, and WS only when he WS's, you will never ever get hit by eruption or plumes.
