I quit FFXI because the wait time as a new dps was atrocious. The valkrum dunes crushed my hope of enjoying that game. I was on RO2 prior to here, which also lacked a DF type system - I found parties on my first dps, long waits on second dps, forced to beg friends to power me through (no level sync) after. Within a few months.

I joined a dungeon PF once as a healer to be nice.. my queue time solo would've been under a minute. I suggested we could queue DF to get the tank, but they chose to wait several minutes instead, then weren't ready to queue right away when we found a tank. Both DPS were pretty meh, too, so it was a sluggish run. I won't do it again because I'd rather not suffer a DPS queue when trying to be nice.

I'm leveling all jobs. SB hunts + HW/SB tribes are a ton of exp, then I do all the roulettes on tanks and healers. When I hit 70 on the final tank, if I still have a DPS to level, I'll just avoid roulettes. If you haven't unlocked the Kojin tribes, I highly recommend it.

While I enjoy the perk, it's not really something that influences the role I select. I figure, I'm a tank main, I'll eventually get the mount. No need to run extras/open additional DPS slots for players than I normally would. Is a mount incentive at all effective?
None at all. Neither does the clusters for roulette, gil or seals. The only time i run roulettes is to get tomes. Add an incentive for gear upgrade tokens and I'd do that until I didn't need it anymore. The carrots that are provided become stale very quickly.

And who are you to make that decision? Are you the one mitigating the damage? Are you the one healing the damage? Perhaps your tank is minimally geared for the dungeon. Perhaps your healer is minimally geared for the dungeon. Maybe you're working with a new tank or new healer that don't know how (or don't want to) pull everything. This is the attitude that makes your dps queues longer.

Ah the early ffxi days. LFP all day ery day. So long as there is the trinity there will be to many DPS. Tank/heal/supporting roles are just flatly never as popular. Many games have tried. All have failed. 14 has done SIGNIFICANTLY better than most. 15-20 min cue times as DPS in a game that requires 50% of the party to be not-dps. (Most games have 5/6/7+ member parties so 1 tank/heal for every 3/4/5 DPS ratio and STILL have longer cues than 14).

Mounts are really more of a nod to people who 'main' tank classes. Very few people are going to pick up tanking, let alone do it hundreds of times to get a mount that weren't planning on doing it already. But its a nice little piece of status for those that commit to tanking.

I don't think it was necessarily designed to make new people tank so much as trying to keep existing tanks happy and content so they will KEEP tanking. More about maintaining than new blood imo.

socialize and make tank healer friends or deal with the queue times no incentives needed.

Welcome to the life of a dps. Most players prefer playing dps thats why it takes for ever for a que to pop.

Oh its that answer again. Its not a solution to be forced to play a class that you don't want to play just because there is no balance in the DF.

We don't need to give any developers any more leeway to jsut be throwing that garbage into their games willy-nilly anymore.

I know it's already been mentioned, but I'll just repeat it, because it's exactly what I did, when I realized my progress as a Dragoon is simply taking me forever. Find an FC. I think leveled into my 50's, never joining anybody outside of the Duty Finder, until I just had to admit that this isn't working. So I put my lone Wolf attitude in a box, and looked for an FC that would suit me. It didn't take me long to find one and I've been with them ever since. Of course it might take a few attempts to find the right one. I'm lucky I found a very helpful and supportive FC on my first try. And eventually I started to level a Tank and Healer Job, helping out others who struggled as I did.

Like others, I'm already level 70 with my Tank, and never bother to run anything outside of Ex-ro and Raids. But any time someone in my FC needs help running low level content to level their classes, I'm there for them, like they are there for me.

There isn't much more they can do to incentivise tanks or healers. Neither role has ever been popular in MMOs. What they should have done is increased the party composition to allow for five and ten man parties, respectively.

To be fair, there is a difference between pulling everything and pulling one pack at a time. DPS can actually live through a single three pack if the healers spot heals some. I've kept myself going through Second Wind and Bloodbath because single packs just don't do anything remotely harmful in most dungeons. There are some exceptions but most don't, hence why DPS may start pulling. They can get away with it. Now, I'm not saying you should. I've pulled with a friend on voice who was healing. So she knew what I was doing before I did it, but just noting how one pack pulls are generally easy and boring. In leveling dungeons, it's more than fair a new tank will be cautious. By level 60+ you should at least be grabbing two packs.
