AST wasn't OP and I wish people would stop propagating that meme. WHM was always considered the "meta" healer for Feast. I feel like that stupid "waaaah 6 of us couldn't kill this one AST in Frontlines" urban myth was a huge reason the class got gutted so badly and it makes me salty AF.

That said Deorbit just plain sucked and the OP is the only person I know who is sad to see the back of it.

It's not a myth. AST was certainly OP around the time that seal rock was still fairly new, and the Feast wasn't even close to release. I used to main AST and we were nearly invincible due to our high potency instant shield spam.

We could put up a shield instantly that would require several GCD's from a DPS to break through, and we'd just instantly recast it if they did, while restoring hp with the same skill, for a low MP cost. WHM was specifically good in the Feast, not necessarily Front Lines (which is where AST was OP) because of Repose. Sleep and CC still effected players for a very long time then. 'Sleep the enemy healer then burst' became a meta strat IIRC.

Remember, the Feast wasn't a thing when people were claiming that AST was OP, so performance in that format wasn't considered. Front Lines was the only active PvP as no-one did Fold. AST was OP in Front Lines prior to the nocturnal sect nerfs.

No, like, people were actually complaining that AST was OP during the Shatter era because they couldn't figure out their buttons. Like yeah AST was op when it first released but once it got fixed up it was fine, but people kept complaining anyway as an excuse.

I could probably dig up some hilarious threads where people were saying AST needed to be nerfed because they claimed they couldn't kill one with 12 people on them...
