Hi, I have both SCH and AST on lvl 70, but if I have to choose i prefer playing as SCH rather than AST. SCH just feel right for me, it has lots of micromanaging and could be so powerful in late content if you manage the micromanaging well. AST on the contrary is easier to play, so versatile, and less micromanaging. I play as AST in tougher content when i need to fully concentrate on mechanics such as savages content.

Hello! I mainly play a white mage.

    Why? Three reasons, really.

The first is the iconic look. One look at those red and white robes and people know you're a healer. Who doesn't like their white mage robes? They are so visually striking!

The second is the job matches my personality well. I enjoy helping others and white mages do that straightforwardly. No additional mechanics to keep an eye on like a scholar or an astrologian. If you have a problem, you throw a spell at it. I like that.

The third is related to the second. The white mage is familiar to me. I played a holy priest in WoW for many years before becoming a tank. (protection warrior.)

Like a white mage, holy priests are reactive healers who throw spells at every problem. Nothing mechanically deep, just simple healing. So, me discovering the game play of a white mage was like coming home. "Oh! I know how this job works!"

Now, some people may call the job boring; but, I feel the class's simplicity encourages me to be a better player. Sure, other classes may have more flash; but, until I get as far as I can go, I'll stick with old, reliable white magery.

I mostly play AST in large parties and WHM in light. I sometimes play SCH for fun. I enjoy AST because it has the most versatile kit for doing things you're not "meant" to do. As the leader of a guild dedicated to doing anything non-mainstream, this is very important to me. ES is extremely useful, and the cards allow for exceptional mechanic cheesing. However, the old Spear was one of it's best tools in that regard, and I miss it terribly.

    SCHOLAR 4 LIFE ^^

Before I bought FFXIV, back before ARR launch, I decided that I'd level SCH first. I was originally choosing between BRD and SCH but I found out BRD was a DPS and that was that. I chose SCH over WHM because it was a pet class ^^ As much as I've learned to hate Eos, I love her too XD

When they announced AST I got really excited because I usually play more support type classes instead so after I did the HW MSQ I levelled it and mained it for a while but I played SCH once after that and it felt great. The best way to describe it is that it felt like coming home. I just felt like letting out a contented sigh. Same thing happened with RDM (it's my fave FF job ever but I DO prefer healing XD) and when I quit my static, I started playing scholar more and it just felt nice.
I still play AST a lot because it's just so fun and it's good to mix it up. By now though, SCH is so familiar as well that it's just good to play ^^

WHM though... I can't explain why but I didn't like it in ARR. I just didn't like the way it felt and quite honestly that's my healer with the highest party member mortality rate XD I levelled it in ARR simply to have both healers and then I did the same in HW and now SB but it's definitely my least played of the 3. It's just the feel of it more than anything (but I do LOVE that AF1 body piece). As others have said, I do like the twirling as well and that's why I like verholy so much on RDM XD

*sits down next to you* Hi there! I’m Kacho Nacho. You make healing on an astrologian sound so interesting! Would you mind going more into your kit allowing you to do things you are not meant to do? I'll share my freshly baked oatmeal cookies with you. *smile*

That’s exactly how I feel except for me it is white mage and red mage. Both feel like “home.”

I like scholars too. In fact, I am leveling two scholars on and off right now. Eos and Selene are great companions and it’s been a lot of fun; but, when I switch to white or red mage it’s like putting on a big, comfortable jacket. It feels so good! *laughs*

Your groups must've been hilarious if you could coordinate old-school Spear use.

As for me, my "main" has bounced around quite a bit. Mostly, it has to do with a disconnect with how I feel about the gameplay vs everything else.

I initially mained WHM during the earliest baby days of FFXIV 2.0, but Gridanian politics, Padjali lore, and the like as I understood it frustated me. Conversely, SCH was great, and holy do I love Tonberries.... But HW'dls additional skills had me tripping over my hotbars, so I gave AST as shot. And I loved the story, quests, aesthetic, but I never felt like I was any good at the job. It wasn't fun.

So I fell back on WHM near the tail end of 3.x, and was a bit startled by how much better everything felt. The questline was so much better and the more I learned of Grid softened my opinion, but it was still my last choice.

Boom, Stormblood job changes. I immediately grab SCH and work my rear off through the MSQ, when, I see AST has a Geomancer (?!?!?!) in it's questline. So, crap I LOVE Geomancer. So I'm leveling AST and feeling frustrated to heck and back that GEO is right there, staining the fact that 4.0 AST is amazing.

And.... Now I'm leveling WHM and it feels great. Really great. I just fell right back into the same cycle. At least I'll have time to think about which to take to Eureka.

Now, when GEO hits, well. Can't make any promises.

Astrologian/White Mage but i main AST.

Simply put the aesthetic of the job, the way it plays everything was fascinating to me. In the past i usually avoided playing a healer, no matter the game, i just didn't have faith enough in myself or perhaps there wasn't any job/class that made me go "oh yeah i'd try that"

That was until AST was unveiled, i tried it as soon as i could, easing into the whole healing thing and only around 3.4 did i change from PLD main to AST main. In fact i mainly play healers nowadays, even outside of XIV. Crazy how a single thing can change the entire scope of how you play MMOs/other games with healer-type characters.

Scholar, fittingly, I feel completely in control of the situation at all times and I like the toolkit, also the fairy doing most of my job for me is a bonus.

Astrologian, versatility. That is the only reason, I can shield if there is a WHM as the second healer, or HoT if there is a Scholar. Not to mention, I can boost raid DPS and put a massive AoE burst heal. My second choice would be WHM and last Scholar. Leveling all to 70, I find Scholar the most annoying with certain group compositions.
