I owned houses (large, mid, small), and I still DON'T see any point in having NOT instanced zones. (Not on my current server, but the previous one.)
Server resources? Quit joking around. The whole server resource thing is just a lame excuse. Yoshi stated several times that the lack of instances is simply his fetish.
SE reminds me of a person with a heavy case of schizophrenia. They hate RMT and traders. But they don't sell gold, and they do this with houses too. All of these simply promotes RMT, gold selling/buying, backstabbing/scamming.
So what are we even talking about?
THEY promote bad behavior and sellers.
Ps.:
- Having instances will not eliminate "uniqueness" of houses. You can easily see who spent more money, time and effort on his/her house.
- Just because you have more houses, that won't mean people won't visit. No one visits other houses now without reason. People visit their own, friends or FC houses. This would not change one bit.
- Most plots that are purchased are simply resold or kept empty. If you visit a housing zone even on a Legacy server - it's just empty plots. WOW, SO UNIQUE! \o/
- Adding instances would get rid of scammers / re-sellers and also kick the people who bought them up by the dozen in the balls.
- Claiming this rarity makes housing unique is silly. Almost all bots you can get for FFXIV have teleport hacks. You could whip up a code that teleports into a zone and buys a house within hours. So what are we really talking about?
- I was on LiquidSky at launch using a Pro package. It's basically a server and has 1gbps solid connection. I know how networks work, but still - network speed or delay wise - I was #1. Yet I managed to land in the world server crash and then it was all sold out. I was like 1 minute late and it was _all_ sold out. All.
Bottom line - and yeah I said this already - this practice only protects the RMT people, bad behavior, and resellers. Not seeing much point in it.
