I would not be suprised, if they did this. I mean they could have given us more retainers for free if they wanted to. Before SB when alot of players were asking for extra inventory spaces, SE could have given the players more retainers (I mean we know they are able to give players extra retainers for a fee), yet they decided that amount of $$$ that they can make outweighs the needs of those players. This is the same for housing.

I can totally see them adding houses to the Mog Station with a 8-10 dollar fee a month, the whole retainer issues have shown us that they can do it. One of the suits only has to come here and see that there is a demand and we will see Mog Home for rent option added to the Mog Station.

Access to airships, higher grade crafting, and chocobos are only interesting to roleplayers? The latter two you can only get if you have an apartment/house, which are already filling up in the bigger worlds, and the former is impossible without a house. Plus people who don't roleplay actually do like to decorate, shocking as it might be.
