This. The houses will be gone in a flash and that's just that. Log out to log back in on alt and your rip to the login que. (at least on my server for sure)

The housing system is dark and cruel and you got to play along with it or get run over, at least until SE puts in instance housing or more wards. I don't see how they don't have the cash from all their success to get instance houses rolling.

Few as in the grand scheme of things (i.e. let's just say for example's sake, 5000 out of the nearly 300K active accounts on NA). And I guess I shouldn't have said "all." A bit over dramatic I suppose when I meant "a lot."

I wouldn't be surprised that on lower or middling pop servers (like the OP's) there will be sufficient time to log in and out and buy at least a few houses if they hurry. Or, even easier, for FCs (like the OP brought up) to organize several people to log in and scoop up multiple plots simultaneously.

It's really not far fetched at all.

Well, if it's anything like what happened on Balmung the last time there were houses, entire FCs will coordinate to buy up as many houses as possible to resell.

Pretty much this. As the leader of the FC the OP is talking about, I can confirm that most people will whine about housing without even trying. We didn't magically have 9 houses from one day to another, we waited for people to go inactive and bought the plots and slowly decorated them to what they are now, and this was over the course of 2+ years and as a joint effort. While I'm sure there are plenty of FCs/individuals that are dying to put their ahriman bookshelves and default walls, I don't believe that it's impossible to find a plot.
Hell, a good friend of mine used to PM me every 2-3 days with plot #s that had opened up in other wards, until I told him I was only interested in plots in our ward. SE has a 45 day inactivity vacancy for a reason.

Besides, we put our heart into the decorations/theme and give them way more use than most people do. So, please look forward™ to our Shirogane houses.

Yeah, screw all the people who have been trying, I guess. They should just magically work around that several hundred person queue.

You know, the 'we put in the work so we deserve multiple houses' argument is trotted out just about every time this subject comes up and every time it just baffles me as to why people feel the need to state something so obvious. It's pretty dang self-evident that you put in work to raise the gil and get the houses, seeing as you have them. No one with any sense would argue otherwise.

But the fact that you put in work to get them does not negate the fact that there are other people, both individual players and FCs, who have also put in just as much work (and possibly more) to get a home and just haven't had the luck to be at the right place at the right time to get one. Now I know our server is not as overcrowded as some and as such that housing is easier to obtain than the higher pop servers, but the really sh**y thing about SE's housing system is that no matter the amount of work you put in, abousolutely nothing can guarantee you a house except good old-fashioned luck.

And to nip the other most popular argument defending house hoarding in the bud-

I am not saying that it is against the ToS to own multiple houses (even if I feel it should be.) I am not accusing anyone of breaking any rules. But abiding by the letter of the law doesn't necessarily mean that you are behaving in a decent manner.

I never said we 'deserved' to have multiple houses for putting it work. We have them because we put in hard work, and it definitely wasn't old-fashioned luck. You're as capable as we are and while I'm sure there are people in other servers that have put as much effort as us on finding a plot, it doesn't entitle them to one. We could work really hard as a group and give it our best, and it still doesn't entitle us to it. No one is entitled to it. Not you, not me, not anyone.
It's no different from players who complain about the top 100 feast players getting exclusive gear or next patch's content being walled by savage/high gear. Paying a sub doesn't entitle you to get things handed to you.
You're in an overpopulated server that makes the competition too hard? Consider transferring to a medium pop server, SE even makes it easier.
You don't want to deal with competition at all? I would suggest trying out Club Penguin, but last time I heard, it shut down.

Limited resources in an MMO have been a thing since forever. And while my argument may baffle you, I'm more baffled at the fact that you choose to complain in public forums about a group of players that own less than 0.5% of player housing in a server instead of investing your time in finding a plot. Just sayin'.
