Wow a lot of replies. I'm subbed since the beginning but.. not only do we lose nothing, we got to claim a bunch of those rewards like the ahriman mount before they switched over to achievement points payment. No additional purchase necessary, boyz. They treating us just fine, I would've subbed without the bonuses anyways.

I see it as we already have them and it doesn't really matter I've never weared any of the gear for glamour they are nice when you want to mix and mach but really not big deal, but this will serely incentivice new players to stay subebd so whatever is helpful for the community is welcoming to us, we aren't paying subs to get these clothes we are paying subs to play this game rewards are just a small bonus so this is not a slap in no one's face.

"I can't believe that new players are going to have access to that piece of gear gathering dust on my retainer's inventory with 0% spiritbonding that I got two years ago! I am so disgusted! How dare SE do that? This is so unfair that my special glamour that I never used is going to not be used by other people! Just thinking about my reward gathering dust on someone else's retainer makes my blood boil! Bad move, SE, bad bad move! This is not how you treat your costumers! I guess it's time to unsub."

To those complaining about the fantasia from the MSQ not being retroactively available to us: We got our free fantasia when we subbed for our first 30 days. That is going away now, and being replaced with the fantasia rewarded for completing the end of 2.0 MSQ.

There is maybe a small handful of people who will fall in the middle and end up with both after patch day (ie, those who just started within the last month, just bought their first 30 days, but have not completed the 2.0 MSQ yet).

Such as my two alts I managed to get on Greg server before the lockout, not that I'd change either of them.

Because yes, I'm fairly certain that SE estimated 30 days as being plenty of time to beat the 2.0 MSQ . . . and another month to beat the 2.1 through 2.55 if people take their time with it and sidequests (lol no).

Why is it always so black and white? I am not saying that people are just playing a game for the costumes (and even if those exit..why should I care why they play?) but that maybe if someone did not play maybe 2-3 months and would have not subbed for that time span, they might have changed that when they saw a reward that they liked and did not want to lose that months where they dont play. I am not talking about subbing for a year but not playing it but more smaller breaks. Those will be gone now since other than the campaigns (and owning a house..) one has no incentive to even stay subbed if they for a short amount are not playing the game. It might not be too much for one person but such sums can add up over time.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

    Why not both?

I stay subbed even through my breaks to reap the rewards. Now I guess I don't have too....but I am now simply too lazy to unsub and resub.

Conversely, newer players look at how excessive the latter rewards are and don't feel compelled at all to remain subbed. You'll find this far more probable than veterans caring. I know you've previous said they could have cut the requirements in half but that remains over a two year wait for anyone who started playing now. Delays of that significance just don't have long term appeal as the game ages. Since Veteran Rewards existed primarily to make continual subscription attracted, once that appeal was lost, they wanted to move on. I wager they received much better results from the Falcon campaign, hence the change. Regardless, numerous people have posted they stayed subbed primarily for the outfits despite outright acknowledging they were bored of the game. That is more who Hyomin is referencing.

Speaking for myself, Veteran Rewards were never an incentive to stay subbed. I stayed subbed because I enjoyed playing the game; not because I cared more about vanity items—the only one I actively cared anything about was Cloud’s outfit, and after I got it, I was pretty satisfied, but even working up to it, I wondered to myself if I would even be playing the game in a year from now...six months from now...etc.. When they announced the Squall outfit and I saw it would take 4 years worth of sub time, I literally said to myself “Officially no longer care about that outfit no matter how sick the jacket looks.” Because how do I know I’ll even still be playing this game in 2 more years time? I can’t speak for others, but I feel certain that newbies who saw a 4-year pay wall instead of a 2-year one (as in my case) felt even less motivated.

There have literally been people raging over this change because they can’t have their “exclusive” vanity items (that they probably end up using once and then shoving in the Armoire and never looking at them again) longer than newer players, who probably look at a reward locked behind a 4-year pay wall and say exactly what I said to myself when I saw it. There is a such thing as incentives to retain subscriptions, and then needless subscription walls blocking off/making rewards for the more average player nothing more than a mere dream. I’ve honestly seen more people who claim they pay subscriptions merely for the glamour items, making it seem like they don’t care to actually play or enjoy the game itself, and they are the ones I am referring to: if you (general you here, again) are paying a subscription monthly, tri-monthly, or semi-annually just for digital glamour items and not to actually play and enjoy the game, then you are subscribing for the entirely wrong reasons.
