Dear Healers who don't DPS

To be fair, NPCs (or AI) in many solo duties throughout the game have been able to DPS and throw out heals to the hero or other nearby characters so seeing squadrons do this is actually nothing new, probably utilizes the same system. Also the squadron is not manually controlled so it's barely a fair comparison. Not that I'm saying healers should never try to DPS, but it's barely a sound arguement.

Not aimed directly at you in the least as I have not played with you but generally the AI in this game is not amazing. Aim to be better than an AI healbot.

This is 100% a sound argument. It goes against the ever popular "but the devs said" line people love to drop while also (in my opinion) challenging weak or inexperienced healers to do better than a bot.

That said I think this will apply in the same way to other roles. I don't know much of the tank AI but the DRG was using positionals properly.

I think this is at least a respectable skill floor. These bots aren't going to push 95th percentile DPS but they are going to do their job.

Waiting for a post about how we should consider the AI heal bots' feelings too.

Hell, I had to heal a third of Sirensong Sea (everything up to and including the first boss) as a RDM yesterday because for some reason healers kept immediately quitting. I'd have let the bot join in a heartbeat, and I imagine the bot would have felt pretty great about getting a dungeon invite. Equal dungeon rights for healer bots, IMO! Stop the oppression of AI squad members!

Before we start pointing at the bots, let's actually see how good they are, and how well the tanks and healers work before we pass judgement on them.

We could end up in a situation where the healer bots let player DPS die because the healers were DPSing. The player DPS keeps ripping aggro off of the tanks because the tanks cannot hold aggro, which is going to force the players to play around the bots.

If what I've just described is how the bots actually work, it's only going to reinforce why the healers shouldn't DPS.

I don't see much of a correlation. NPCs who heal already tend to do so at set thresholds and otherwise stay on the offensive.

Besides, arguments against healer DPS invariably boil down to entitlement issues or straw man bashing; these people aren't going to be swayed regardless of how well or poorly a bot party functions.

I consider healer DPS as another type of healing, the faster the mobs/boss dies, the less damage people will take.

FOREVER THIS! I dps my heart out or if I can't, I at least throw my dots out. The faster the boss dies, the less damage the boss or mob does. Now I only ever change to full on healer mode for 2 reasons. The first reason is if I get greedy and someone dies. It happens rarely, but if someone needs a rez, I'm not healing enough. The second reason being tanks who can't use cds. I ONLY find tanks who don't know their cds in roulettes and its really rare to find.

If you're really bothered by spending 10-15 more minutes in your dungeon then maybe you should make a post about how the dungeon/roulette system is boring you instead of prolonging this zombie topic that just loves to crawl out of the grave every now and then. Because lets face it, one thing ff14 sucks at is making interesting 4 man content. Maybe if they up the difficulty until we need to use CC on each pull then people will stop complaining about healer dps.

And, if the healer sucks by either lack of healing, lack of DPS, or lack of both, the party is allowed to kick them.

There have already been tons of complaints about the content of dungeons and how boring they are.

Because lets face it, one thing ff14 sucks at is making interesting 4 man content. Maybe if they up the difficulty until we need to use CC on each pull then people will stop complaining about healer dps.

And sadly, they will never do this because of the people who will complain that now things are "too hard" because they can't just /follow-alt tab in 4-man content.

The question though: Who is acting like they are entitled something they don't deserve?

Healers that insist on standing around doing nothing for the majority of the dungeon come off far more entitled than people that advocate for them to contribute to the group.
