Compare this to the jokes on Dark Knight's edginess, and furthermore sexy cat people.
Hold on, so you (and some others) are actually taking the feelings of harassment towards a fictional character as something serious? That tasteless (and harmless) jokes towards a fictional race in the game are something that should now be deemed taboo because feelings? That being called a potato, dinner, or referencing an object to be punted is going to seriously deter someone from picking the race more than any other petty reason?

This is bordering that fine line of communicating overused jokes and creepy empathy. The joke is already engraved into the race, no different than it was for Tarutaru in XI (the original joked about race Lala's were based from), and no different than lolDRG (another joked about theme from XI). It's okay that there's something to laugh about towards the job/race/whatever and it does not mean they're inferior or anything, unless the devs actually design them to be. The fact that people can joke about Lala's in the way they do, specifically that it's not a jab at performance, already implies there's nothing of merit to be up-in-arms about. If you were a Lala IRL, then that's another story, but we are talking about fiction... and it's not even hateful. So much so that you CAN reverse the jokes at people that communicate them (like me) and have fun at our expense.
