Well you sir or madam are just on top of things.
I'm hoping this is the last post in this thread, but waiting for it to fizzle out for a long time.
I find it funny my retainers have vulgar names yet they havent been changed.![]()
Just my personal opinion, but one thing i never forget is. its a game.
for those that cant sleep at night because they have seen a "bad" name then report them i suppose and somehow feel like you are a better person.
tbh i think ppl need to worry more about the UI and needed changes/conveniences to the game (mail) then a name. and worry a heck of alot more about making sure they simply find reason to laugh and enjoy what they can in the game.
a jumble of letters that happens to be something you dont like....... to me....is just a silly reason to get your panties in a twist.
people from all walks of life play, in many many different countries and with unlimited upbringings. relax, take a breath and focus on the game.
its up to SE to decide in the bitter end. i hope they too arent too "frigid" i guess is the best way to put it idk![]()
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!
I've been told many times that my name is actually a slang term used for my favorite female reproductive organ in some language.
Yes I did miss that.
All I see is that SE reserves the right to censor any words they see fit because it is their game.
And I know that SE is going to go with the majority vote on what words to censor because that will make them the most money.
I understand how life works.
I only claim to share truth and wonder why truth blinds so many, nothing more.
OP's question. What to do if you THINK you see inappropriate name?
Answer. Laugh at said inappropriate name.
If there are any here who feel its morally wrong or that it may insult someones personal feelings to see someone with a naughty name the only thing I have to say to you is get over it. Its the internet, you will see things like this, EVERYWHERE. No matter how much the "Safety police" try to or could ever do about it it will persist. You should just get over it and move on with life. Its not your job to censer the world clean of dumb names. In short grow a sense of humor. You'll live longer.
It is better to be pissed off than pissed on.
If there were no rules laid out by SE prohibiting "offensive" names, then that would apply for sure. We have said, report it if you feel it's a problem, SE agrees, they have to change it, they don't agree it stays and you deal with it.OP's question. What to do if you THINK you see inappropriate name?

I do believe when meeting new people that they deserve a certain level of respect, but this is just my opinion. This is partially true.
Everyone should respect another person and their opinions to a certain degree. Now, people lose and gain respect based on their actions. You shouldn't judge another before you know them. If you find that they are disrespectful of you or someone else, then you lose respect of them (Or rather, I hope you would) and if they do nice things and respect others than they deserve more respect.
When I meet someone new I show them a certain level or respect in the form of politeness and kindness. From there they either earn further respect or lose respect depending on their actions.
I believe that there is a huge difference between someone just not liking hearing a word (and (mis-)labeling it as offensive because of that), and words purposely being used by someone to hurt another in an offensive manner. And if I find what you just said to be mean, rude and offensive and then ask you to not say it anymore and decide you should only say what I want you to from now on?
Do you see where this is leading? It leads to control issues and censorship.
Telling someone to not use words just because you don't like them is not a productive reason to stop using words - censorship and allowing yourself to be controlled only leads to one place - ignorance.
If you are "offended" at any words, that is your own problem because you created your own problem by choosing to be "offended" at any words.
Your feelings are your own and are not caused by anyone else but yourself and your own opinions.
Take responsibility for your own feelings and figure out why you decided to hold the opinion that any words are "offensive" and stop expecting others to be responsible for your feelings and your opinions that they have absolutely no control over.
I had an issue with my sister with this one before.
I swear sometimes, not a lot, and not at anyone. I stub my toe and trip, I let out a swear word. I get angry at someone else's mess I have to clean, I might end up swearing. Things like that.
Well, my sister used to get mad at me and say, "don't swear!" And I'd tell her it wasn't hurting anyone. I'm not swearing AT anyone. Just because she doesn't like a word doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to use it. She may use words I don't like, but I won't be angry with her for it. "Swear" words aren't any different from other words until they're used against someone.
Words being used to harm someone is the problem, not the words themselves. Calling someone stupid or an idiot can be just as harmful emotionally as swearing at them. She doesn't get mad at me for using words she dislikes now.
In-game it IS possible for character names to me made to hurt others.
Examples without actually making up names: discriminating against/slandering/insulting etc.
I agree that some stupid names that people don't like to look at are mis-labeled as offensive, but there are some names that actually have the intent to offend, and really can/do hurt people.
If I see a name I dislike, find distasteful, or one that makes the person look immature, I choose to avoid them. As some have said, they likely have an immature personality to go with that name.
if I see a name that's directly insulting/offensive, I would report it without hesitation.
(Additional note: While I find nothing wrong with swearing when it's not used against someone, I still avoid using it in public. Only because so many find it distasteful.)

Here is a solution, re-name with the same name, slightly different spelling. Let them keep reporting and keep doing the same name changes.
you can an will be banned for multiple offenses of any type. At some point a GM is going to look at the history and say "oh wow this player is just not learning at all" and clicks the ban button
A GM having you rename your character is for the occasion where you unknowingly name yourself something offensive.
