really? people actually like the english voiceactors? Hien sounds like a badass in japanese. in english he sounds weird
with the fake accent.
I guess we can't have a discussion about voice acting without the usual tiresome 'debate' as to whether the Japanese or English voice acting is 'better'.
As of 3.0, the English voice acting has been incredible with a number of famous and highly talented individuals doing quality voice work. Are you fluent in Japanese, out of curiosity? To the extent that you understand the nuances of individual dialects? If not, I doubt you're capable of fairly comparing the two.
Given that Hien self-exiled after his failure to rise up against Garlemald before, I think that shows him as imperfect. Sure, makes him a bit of an Atoner-type, but I'm glad he wasn't beating himself up mentally and stuck in the past. I like that his eyes are forward. I like his calm, humble nature. That's not to say Aymeric wasn't a forward thinking man himself, but I see that where Aymeric is, Hien needs to get there. But their circumstances are wildly different. One had to step up and keep a country from tearing apart, the other literally has to rebuild.
Can I make special mention of Lyse, who not only rose up to be the leader her people needed, but didn't become perfect overnight? She's still a stammering mess at times, still full of self-doubt, and still just a bit endearingly goofy like the Scion we remember before. It's those glaring imperfections that really made her "real" in Stormblood, and she deserves special mention for that.
To each their own. I have listened to their voices in JPN several times, and they sound okay. By the end of the day, both sides did fine with their performances, but I prefer the ENG voices more.
This isn't even a contest. Aymeric is forever my digital waifu.
And here I found the first forum poster who actually likes Lyse.

I love Lyse, too! I do agree she was rushed into her position, I never had an issue with her throughout 4.0. That said, she falls into the same slot Hien currently does for me in that we're still rather early in the story.
If anything 4.0, it's story, cast, and gameplay, left me feeling satisfied in a way 3.0 did not (honestly, I was freaking pissed after 3.0), but I felt very different about Heavensward by the time 3.55 landed.
It's too early for me to call.
Gosetsu of course.
