At some point you've got to ask yourself: "Am I willing to play in a way that supports my party?"

You started your post as if you cared about the load you placed on your healer by checking their gear, but complained at the end about the healer who wanted a higher heal check.

Tank is a fairly supportive role. If you arent willing to support your party, maybe it's a good idea to change to a less supportive role.

I mean, if you've been playing since beta you know this is nothing new. I remember hating WP speedruns back in the day on War, way back before they got buffed. To be fair, WP speed runs is basically the reason they started putting gates up to where you couldn't just pull the whole dungeon and cast sleep. So they've obviously worked to discourage it, but still left enough for us to be able to make decent sized pulls. If they wanted us to only tank 3 mobs at a time then dungeons would be designed that way.

You can...you know always ask if people want a wall to wall pull or just do a middle ground. Or let people know "hey not feeling on top of my game so I want to go a little easy".

You make it sound like you're not even having the discussion to begin with...and you're running off an assumption...

Goes back to that old saying about "assume"

Thanks everyone you've all been great, also helped me make a choice. I wont be renewing my sub or at least not for another month or 2. I had something come up that would prevent me for spending a lot of time in the game anyways.

    Good luck with your adventures.

Sorry you had a bad experience. My last 2 leveling roulettes have been with brand new, sprout, baby tanks in Toto Rak and Halatali. As a Ninja, that means I only have two buttons to press to do damage.

Mind you, everyone but these baby tanks were synced. And guess what? No one said a negative word to him / her.

This community is a lot better than you give it credit for.

Blame the lack of punishing mechanics, unless there is something difficult to warrant small pulling then big pulling will be the norm.

I big pull because dungeons are mind-numbing for everyone (especially me) if I don't.

Not to mention that the tank themselves can dish out AOE damage. The ONLY reason not to big pull is if the party can't handle it, and I usually put that to the test rather than making assumptions (taking any responsibility for wipes and communicating adjustments).

Levelling roulette and expert roulette are a bit different, and a tanks mentality should change based on that.

I wanted to thank you for this post. I was going to unlock gladiator and give it a shot (particularly for the Odin glamour), but now I'm not too sure. As a healer, I never press the tank to pull more. I often use my scholar to farm Allagan tomestones of creation and poetics from dungeons. I've had new tanks, stupid tanks and tanks who liked to show off, and I find that it's usually best if I do my best to support the tank's pace. When I make a mistake (like being too focused on doing damage myself), I own up to it. When the tank makes a mistake, I try to be nice about it while also being firm about the tank fixing the mistake. I haven't been yelled at much, but it's usually because people want to go at the breakneck paces you described. My response is typically something like, "If you want to pull the entire dungeon yourself, expect to be slain and kicked. If you go at the tank's pace, no matter how slow, I have no problem with you."

Curiously I rarely have theses cases of total bad behavior. Might be tied to hours of Ex roulette, or the fact I'm allways teaming with my GF and reduce the risks of bad player from 3 to 2.

I sometimes, have really slacky healers that deals no DPS and barely heal, sometimes have pro active healers that plays with my HP too hard and end up loosing me for greed, sometimes DPS that only single target on packs (and end up doing real bad ST dps anyway).

Over the hundreds of dungeons I did on my three tanks, I rarelly encountered so bad and aggressive people I couldn't deal with, and would simply throw them out at the first occasion to ensure a non toxic run.

There are allways people overlooking their own capacities, and most of the "pullmore" people are underplaying when you do as they ask, and end up loosing you.

Edit: well to add something, Nin is really a reliable and good AOE job now. With low TP cost and lots of ogcd to weave, doton, katon, kassatsu, stealth reset of ninjutsu before engaging, hellfrog medium and ten-chi-jin, you end up beeing a solid and steady AOE job, able to AOE even on long duration packs.

Remember FFXIV is a game, the moment you feel that you are not enjoying something, stop doing it. I would advice you to play a role that you have not played before or a class that you never tried before.
