It wouldn't surprise me if Ul'dah was the home city of glass and clay workers, but it just feels a bit... odd, really, that these two trades don't get their own separate guild. For gameplay purposes, I understand why we're not glassworkers or potters - adventurers gotta craft things that adventurers use - but that in-lore, they're just lumped into ALC? At least give them a separate guild that gets mentioned!

Both glassblowing and pottery have been practiced for millenia on Earth, no reason why it's not the same for Eorzea (and glass can be found in the Sunken Temple, for evidence that it's been around for a long time too). And they're both complex trades, producing a wide range of goods. It's just that almost none of those goods are relevant to an adventurer's life.

It actually makes me wonder why we don't see any glass cups or jugs, pitchers, etc, in-game. Eorzea definitely should have the technology to manufacture them - Ancient Rome had clear glass vessels back in the 4th century BC, after all.

Apparently the clear glass receptacles we mostly see are automatically produced whenever we use CUL to craft a cup of chamomile tea or a pitcher of orange juice. Or when we use MIN to collect Abalathian Spring Water or such.

The closest thing to a model with clear glass is the Chilled Red housing item, which has tinted glass bottles of the titular chilled red wine. Oddly, while crafting it requires a silver ingot for the cooler itself, the wine bottles again are provided gratis, with the only possible source of glass in the recipe being the pitchers the grape and orange juices are in. Which, again, appear out of nowhere.

(Every other liquid-bearing container for housing items are ceramic.)

Or metal. Alchemy should require lots of glass containers, since both metal and ceramic are still highly reactive under certain circumstances. It seems that commonfolk use plain metal cups, while highborn use fancy wrought goblets, like in Nanamo's "death" scene.

Trying to recall any other scenes that might have involved glass containers, I can only think of our dinner with Aymeric. I should rewatch that cutscene and see what kind of cups we use.

Looks like metal? If I squint a bit. It's not clear glass, and it doesn't look like ceramic, but I could be wrong.

Fun fact! Those are the same types of cups we see in the Gold Saucer, being carried on a tray by the waitress near the main counter. I suppose clear glass cups are nonexistent in game for now.

The closest thing I could find so far, was the jars in the Riviera Cupboard, which appear to be clear glass jars, conveniently filled with some sort of fruit preserve so the actual model is not clear glass.

Hm....aren't there clear glass bottles at the Barber in Rhalgr's Reach? Well, they're filled with liquid of various colors...but I think that they're clear.
