Dear Healers who don't DPS

You are free to only demand this from your healers, but what if "keeping the party alive" doesn't require the healer to do anything at all, or only use one action every couple of minutes or so? In HW I healed an expert roulette dungeon by being active only 17% of the time. That's 83% of dungeon time doing nothing at all (well, doing /mandervilledance and /icam). Again, if this is an acceptable level of participation for you, fine. But how would you treat a tank or a DD who would only be active 17% of the time?

Well as I said their job is to heal. If there is no threat of wiping then they should DPS. I may not be that knowledgeable for this game but I've been playing MMOs 14 years now and I was a just saying what healers are supposed to do.

To make it short, healer DPS is good, but don't make it look like mandatory by saying things like : "a pure healer is a bad healer..."
The biggest problem with that attitude is that it puts a lot of stress on new healers, and will make many quit the job after being criticized a few times - and we need healers.
It is also a problem when the healer isn't really good at DPS + healing, or the situation doesn't help (undergeared tank), but the healer refuses to adapt.
And it is definitely a problem when the healer forgets he's actually... well, the healer : "why do I need to heal, use (Bloodbath) noob..." (Yes, I actually had that once)

Healer doing DPS is definitely a plus in a group - but people should show more tolerance and/or humility by not belittling pure healers.

On the other hand, what else do you call it when players stand around doing nothing or are overhealing just to look busy? That's playing poorly by any measure.

I believe it's important not to cede this point and to push back against the constant excuses. It still seems that many players out there have this bizarre notion that healer DPS is a 100% uptime, no-compromise proposition despite how often they are reminded that it is, at its core, a basic expectation to do something useful while not casting heals.

If he was just standing there for like a minute, and just threw one or two heal, then you can fairly tell him : "Hey friend, since damage so low, why don't you try throwing in a few stones or aeros ?"
Then may be develop : "More damage will make the mobs die faster, so in return it'll make you heal less..."
And go on like this in a courteous and constructive way.
That is perfectly fine.

I don't know if it's a new trend among youngsters nowadays, but the problem is that people will most of the time yell on pure healers because :
- that make them look like pro gaming masters
- there's that stupid "linux-like" habit that hackers have of yelling, because according to their guru, dissaproval is better "understood" this way
- as you said, some pro-DPS healer tend to put DPS before healing, which is WRONG
- anonymity just transform innocent kids into the worst form of troll that our world can produce

In fact, it's not a problem about gameplay at all : it's a problem about attitudes.
And from my experience, in most group where I had those "elite" players yell on noobs after many wipe, once the "elite" finally ragequited and we got replacement, dungeon/raid surprisingly ran smoother to completion.

Let me expand this with: party is dying? You're there to HEAL them, stop bitching at them because you wanted to do more DPS.
You wanna do damage, roll a DPS.
