It was from someone who made a translation during the broadcast. It was posted in Reddit. How north it was, there was no mention, it simply said "sands north of othard"

"That's a fine accomplishment lad. Young and lusty as you are, no doubt you'll achieve much and more in the years to come. I look forward to hearin' all your deeds." - Jonathas, Master of the Rolls, Old Gridania

We know that Rabanastre/Dalmasca is in Ilsabard (the cloud covered area next to Othard), Gaius at one point asks a soldier where he's from and he replies Dalmasca (I believe, it's been a while), and Livia was also known for her fearsome reputation in Dalmasca.
It's slightly different than saying where Ivalice itself is (and it'd still be a different Ivalice from the Ivalice Alliance games) but we've known some areas with the same name as the Ivalice areas exist in Hydaelin, we just don't know EXACTLY where yet.

Got a question.
Return To Ivalice. Is this just a raid or is there going to be an actual explore-able Rabanastre city for normal PVE story?
I thought it was simply a raid series but the patch notes are confusing me.

It's the raid series for 4.0, like Mhach is for 3.0 and Crystal Tower for 2.0.
I am curious though as to which patch notes made you confuse.

Although you're right about Ilsabard being that clouded area north west of Othard (and thus where FFXIV's version of Rabanastre/Dalmasca are), it was not Gaius who asked those soldiers where their birthplaces were, it was actually Nero (he was trying to locate an Ala Mhigan spy, and the English version does not include the FFXII reference, the other soldier merely replies "Othard" - it was only in other languages that this was stated). The scene in question was the cutscene at Castrum Occidens that played when you took an airship for the first time and Gaius and his tribunes were first introduced.
Either way, given the aforementioned statement that the FFT story is "an old Garlean legend", it seems to me this is just going to be a raid version of the Minstrel's Ballad, where the events are so far in the past no one is alive who even remembers it other than as cultural memes, instead it all takes place in the player character's head, their imagination filling in the blanks about what happened then. But either way, we'll find out soon enough whether I'm right or horribly wrong.
True, and it's not just FFXII areas that are name referenced in Hydaelyn, there's the Crystal Tower, World of Darkness and soon Forbidden Land Eureka from FFIII (as an ancient Allagan power station, alternate dimension and a former Ala Mhigan training ground respectively), as well as Gold Saucer and Costa del Sol from FFVII (as a amusement part/casino in Thanalan run by Godbert and a resort town owned by a rich Ul'dahan in La Noscea respectively) and even some places from non FF games are showing up (Palace of the Dead from Tactics Ogre ~ Let Us Cling Together).
All these places are NOT their 'original' forms, they're all lore specific to FFXIV's lore and merely reference those past FF games in name and enemies/situations only without directly being those places. And I believe the 'Return to Ivalice' raid is going to be the same.

My mistake it was the recent live letter news. It says players will enter Rabanastre as part of the journey. Which makes me think an explorable city. So if it is a raid and it keeps the base story. What would the raid be like? Full city under siege or something, or the Garamsythe Waterway? The vague wording(imo) seems more like an actual city with npcs and stuff.Return to Ivalice
In the world of FFXIV, the Final Fantasy Tactics story is a well-known fairy tale known by anyone from Garlemald. Keeping the FFT story as a base, it also has an essence of FFXII. Return to Ivalice has been designed in such a way that those who do not know either of these can also enjoy it as well. Players will enter Rabanastre as the first part of their journey.

I was actually wishing that it will be an explorable city before the recent LLP38.
Anyways, the first raid dungeon/area will be named Rabanastre, that's what I take from what you quoted, like Void Ark for the Mhach series.

Walking around in Rabanastre crafting and fishing..gah.. I didnt know how bad I wanted this. XD
Does anyone got a date or has it been announced after stream when is it coming out?
I understand it says early October. Will that be Tuesday the 3rd? Or Tuesday the 10th?
Can't remember when past ones were released (was it October as well?)
