Is it too much to say thank you?

I get around a thousand more commends throughout my one-year full of journeys in FFXIV. I concluded upon this in the end: You won't "always" get a commendation. But if you're doing well, and your party thinks you're doing well, you'll usually be rewarded with a commendation as a sign of thumbs up for your efforts.

I even get one commendation playing as a BLM at times, just because I prove to them that BLM is king of AoE in dungeons, and/or do a lot of DPS as BLM (as it's not an easy class to master).

Here's my tips on getting praises and commends on your chosen classes:

Try things like Shadewalker use as a NIN, Nature's Minne and Paean often as BRD, Goad as any melee DPS, Refresh & Tactician as any Ranged, Mana Shift as any Caster (to help the healer). People would praise you for being a team player.

Don't let the tank die as Healer. Plus points if you can also do a noticeable amount of DPS, and applying DoT often. Adapting to any situation and big pulls is also a plus.

Do your best to keep every mobs to you, and use your mitigation cooldowns properly as Tank. It's even more impressive if you can stance dance, for my example, Deliverance + Vengeance for impressive damage while keeping penalties to a minimum.

I feel like the standards some people have on the forums are ridiculous. If you drop something and someone picks it up for you, do you take it and ignore him because "it only takes a tiny bit of skill to pick something up"?

It only takes two mouse clicks to commend someone and make them feel better. That takes 0 skill or effort. It's easy for a reason.

Your commendation isn't supposed to be some sort of heavenly gift you hand out to those you deem worthy of your presence or consideration.

Bottom line for me, if they did their job well and the run went smoothly as a result, I give them a commend. If they're rude or refusing to listen to advice, I don't commend. Usually I give it to a healer who DPS'es well, since that makes the run much faster. It's thanks for not making that particular run fast and smooth. Its that simple.

I play all three roles. I Don't expect anything because... why should I? By clicking that queue I offered to take on the responsibility of whichever role I queue'd in as. Be that my PLD or my AST/SCH or my BRD. I feel as though I'm GOOD on each of them and do above the minimum expected from the role, but even then, why does that make me worthy of everyone stopping to thank me? A general "gg all" or "thanks everyone" at the end is plenty, I don't need to be singled out for doing what I signed up to do especially when everyone else did what they signed up to do.

-Don't get me wrong- it IS nice when it happens. But expecting it? You may be healing for the wrong reasons.

Just going off the experience of leveling from 60 to 70 whm healers do deserve a thank you even if they just do their role. They have to put up with tanks that don't use cooldowns/pull too much or not get hate on everything. (If it's name is orange pick it up tanks). And of course there are dps a dime a dozen that don't do mechanics or stand in ouch because "mah dps so important". #saltywhm

You could that replace for every role. DD players have to deal with tanks who can't tank and healers who can't heal. Tanks have to deal with healers who can't heal and DD's who don't do any dps. And the unnecessary death is not a DD or tank thing alone, there are a load of healers who die to every stuff no matter how obvious it is marked.

OP: You don't have to expect a "Thank you." just because you are a healer, no one should expect a "Thank you" in a game anyway.

ok. to everyone who responded I understand that thanks and coms aren't required or to be expected. Like I said in my original post I've been going through a lot of irl stuff. I wasn't in a great place at the time of the post. I appreciate those of you who were civil in you disagreement of my post.

To aswage those posts that said I shouldn't be healing. I heal because I enjoy it. and I'm damned good at it. I'm sorry my opinion differs from yours but discouraging someone from their chosen role is just rude.

It's ok mate, I think we've always had that one terribad run where we basically heal through unbelievable levels of stupid and then come out salty af for the lack of the custumary polite "thanks for the run" or "take care".

As a RDM having to raise healers, dps and tanks in any instance past 64, using Mana-shift and clutching straws while hoping my mp returns on time to continue dpsing, I can say I never get thank yous or commendations. And I work my arse off. But I do what I do cause I can do it. And what little time is necessary to save a wipe from having to run back, I'll do it because I'm a RDM! Praises are always welcomed, but never expected.

I always try to properly thank anyone that isn't healer and helps me with mana or raising someone or even help me to meet a healing check. And give him/her a comm.

I never expect thanks from people, but I do notice that I tend to get commendations from competent groups as a healer more often then bad ones that have issues like DPS getting OHKO'd by avoidable mechanics and tanks not holding enmity properly.

I always give a commendation to somebody unless everyone was playing really badly.

Stop caring about random stranger's approval, both in game and in real life. As long as you're happy with the effort that you put in, that's all that matters. Stop caring about commendations and recognition, seriously.
