I know they're are a lot of threads on jumping but i think we can all agree that looking out into a field of players constantly hopping around looks silly. I never got into WoW but whenever i watched my friends play it seemed like they would hit the spacebar almost like a nervous tick whenever they were walking any distance longer then 10 seconds or a wait that took more then a minute.

My solution here is simple and to suggest some kind of minor delay when the player hits the ground so that it hurts on running speed efficiency. I'm talking about something so small that if a player were to jump 30 times in a row while running they would only arrive at their destination 25% later. I think that would be more then enough to stop 90% of players from jumping around town nervously.

I also believe when jumping offers no distance/hour penalty minor obstacles like fences or ledges offer no further immersion then the ghost fences and ledges we currently have in game now. Jumping should make me feel like i'm manipulating my characters position in space not an assumption that i constantly own all the space above my characters head with no real limitations.A properly timed jump over a fence is a lot more gratifying then passively spamming jump as my character approaches a fence.

While i think the modern day WoW player will undoubtedly be frustrated by this, I have a lot more faith in the mature audiences ability to respect realism and FFXIV's individuality, cause what we have now screams wow clone and a lack of imagination something that any new player will notice the minute they hit the largest key on their keyboards. I don't want to look out upon FFXIV's beautiful landscapes and notice the nervous twitches of an impatient player over the intricately designed gear that he potentially spent long hours trying to acquire.

Thanks for reading and even if you don't agree with me I at least hope I can inspire the community to continue to offer constructive criticism.
can we stop these threads already? People seem to be more afraid of some added feature (no matter if its just cosmetics or needed) then they seem to be on how the game will evolve and work out in the future. If you think that almost everyone will just mindlessly jump around then... i think you have no faith in the community and should just quit the game. It's really getting annoying. You basicly say that 99% of the people are mindless retards, what is keeping in the game?

Anything went in the world of Britannia. These days, it's always "You can't do this" and "you can't do that."

Some concessions sometimes need to be made for gameplay purposes- but such concessions should not be overly frequent. Features should not be denied just because a few kids don't have the maturity level for an MMO in the first place.
Ah~ those were good days indeed.
You sir win 5 internets for your brilliant comment.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

Lol thought the same thing...... some pple should just stick to FFXI or any other mmo that suits their needs and taste. Instead of trying to turn the other mmo into what THEY want.

SE is not aiming for a niche this time, SE wants WOW's and every other mmo out there's playerbase.

I can't wait till Jump is in the game.

I'll be the one spamming jump all day every day.

Some please make a jump bot, so I can AFK jump all day every day.

That's the funny thing though. Isn't jumping and swimming supposed to add to immersion?

The stakes are however failing at attaining that large WoW playerbase and losing it's niche. Most FFXI players who played at launch turned their backs pretty fast, they might give it another chance down the line when 2.0 comes out, but don't expect them to come running when FFXIV hasn't met their needs. When it comes to that large WoW playerbase, FFXIV is already in a pickle, because the most spread mentality (from review and word of mouth from people who played at launch) is that this game is a failure.

The major appeal for FFXIV is it's FF brand, there's only so much innovation can do at this point, especially taken into consideration it's damaged reputation. The only thing FFXIV has as an advantage over XI is it's youth. FFXI has been going on for almost 10 years successfully, but the graphics are getting old, the content is stretched, the gap between the average player and the newbie is too big and the playerbase is on the decline. This game also has promising potential. Aside from that FFXI is at advantage at mostly everything.

These players are going to want to play another MMO that gave them so many fond memories and moments, and if these are after the average western rpg setup then am sorry to say that the competition is fierce, there are better options. On top of that, the average Final Fantasy player is also a loyal player that will play for years to come given that this game succeeds and fulfills their needs.

2.0 is the the pinnacle that's going to define if this game will survive or not, I will not be as merciful then as I was at 1.19.
