PVE and PVP separation in Stormblood??

    Hello,

I'm a returning player to ff14. In fact, I've returned because i was interested on the pvp updates and the new feast system that lets SE work easily on pvp balance.

However, to my surprise, I found out that there was absolutely no link between pve and pvp anymore apart from the EXP you gain in pvp matches. This is, in my opinion, a huge mistake from the developers because it does not bring pve players to pvp ( apart for the leveling side of pve maybe ) and doesn't give any reason to pvp players to do pve content (which is 90% of the content of the game ).

In my opinion , SE over simplified the pvp by limiting the skills to 11 and removing stats /gear from pvp. Stats/Traits and gear are what people use to customize their pvp gameplay and I think that people should be able to model this gameplay by going through pve content and at the same time pvp should give the possibility to pve players to unlock additional content/gear etc.

P.S: Sorry for my poor english

The removal of things like gear stats, rank bonus stats is a good change to prevent veterans having an unfair advantage over new players. There's still some basic customisation in the pvp settings for additional actions and traits to set. But yeah, it would have been nice if they kept gear rewards that could be useful outside of pvp beyond just glamor, just anything to work towards that is more than glamor / aesthetics alone.

For me pvp is the end game and not pve.

What I am trying to say is , even though i liked pve in ARR, I am an avid pvp player and in Stormblood I have 0 reason to do PVE.. In Aion for example, even though the game is centered around PVP, PvE is a necessity for pvp players as well.

I would like to have the possibility for example to drop Magic resist or CC resist accessories on an end game pve dungeon or raid that I could use on PvP.. Current gearless PvP should be for training only. However, there should be arenas where you could have the possibility to further customize your character with stats / gear from PvE.

Always disliked gear advantage in pvp no matter what game so that being gone is good thing(losing even if you outplayed your opponent due gear is biggest BS in pvp), now that ability prune is total BS in my opinion and it kinda stomped all these new good changes they made in SB.

Yeah, the gear thing is fine, but the gameplay changes made my main class (WHM) a chore to play.

Don't forget that PvP gives tomes of poetics, which is actually a solid PvP to PvE link you are asking for. So you can PvP to gear up for PvE.

I have to speak up, as a long time PvPer in this game:

Not since the original Wolves' Den did gear matter quite so much. It DID matter, but with Frontlines, we got the ilvl sync, and as long as you were (ideally) wearing i190 or above with your preferred secondary stats, you were just fine. Back in 3.x, someone who had full Alexandrian/upgraded Shire gear would hold no better advantage over someone wearing PvP gear, provided they had the right secondaries.

As for PvP gear, it was already behind current tiers each time new stuff was added. Garo gear - the last PvP gear with stats - was i235, at a time when i250 was our lowest current gear available. And even then, not all of it was all that useful. There were some really useful pieces, yes, but largely, we optimized with anything as low as i190 that had secondary stats we needed. I used the old Law tome top as a MCH because it was the best stat wise at the lowest ilvl.

Now, here's the thing: this information wasn't really explained anywhere, though it was well known among PvPers. We had no issues sharing the information, but often times, we were met with indifference or worse. The stereotypical "you don't pay my sub"-type responses. It wasn't that we were trying to lord over anyone or tell them what to do. We were trying to help them be competitive. We were trying to help them be properly prepared, if only so that they might have a better experience, and while it's unfortunate that SE did little to provide this information, it's worse that it was rejected and shrugged off, and ultimately led to what we have now.

I'm not saying making gear irrelevant is so terrible. It's not a bad change, honestly. But I do believe it was an unnecessary one. PvP gear never gave any advantages one bit after the original WD, but being properly geared - just like in PvE - most certainly did. And if someone was already properly geared for PvE, they were all set for PvP.

It wasn't hard to collect optimal set for pvp but it was causing pointless hassle as you needed mix of pve and pvp gear for ultimate set, on top of that there were also food buffs that gave small VIT and secondary stat boost and TP recovery items that actually gave huge edge against opponent that did't have those when sprint used to consume all of your TP. At least i don't need to craft stacks of foods and wings every second day anymore so that is a good thing, i understand some peoples like this kind of minmax but imo that belongs to pve more than in pvp.

Food didn't give THAT much of an advantage. I performed fine whether using it or not. And you can't call gathering/reusing old gear a hassle (maybe if you were going for Prototype pieces, but the normal raid token/gear system was already a hassle on its own), nor did you absolutely NEED any PvP gear at all. Looking back, I maybe had one piece, bought more for the glamour than usefulness, but it DID have the stats useful to me. Everything else was the Lore gear I'd already been replacing by then.

Claiming it was a hassle to gear for PvP - as simple and low level as it called for - holds no weight when you compare it to gearing for PvP. Hell, a few daily roulettes could get you more than geared for it. Again, I cite a major factor being that perhaps people didn't want to properly learn or prepare for PvP content, thus their enjoyment was dampened. Pretty sure PvE content isn't so fun when people come ill prepared too.
