No they won't. They'll just make some excuse and figure "We finished it, that's all that matters." and be on their merry way. Those people that are doing half damage will try to improve even if total dmg is there.I disagree, if SE put in some kind of damage meter, or at least at the end of dungeon posted total damage for each player. people would see that they are only doing half as much damage as the other person and might do something to fix it.
And even if they didn't want to raise their dps, people would know not to play with that person for content that needs good dps.

this is the only thing you're posting I HAVE to respond to..
having a child is NOT like wanting to talk to people. You cannot turn off your kid, you cannot choose when your children are going to need you. If you have a crying child who WILL NOT STOP unless you hold them you have no choice.
Parents are gamers too, who need to relax.. probably a LOT more than you do (given, I don't know your life, but kids are stressful things to have).
no it's not cool to have low DPS when other people are suffering for it, but telling people they shouldn't play dungeons just because they're trying to juggle a child and their gametime also super not cool.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
And to this I agree, but I don't think that every player who is currently unwilling to learn is made so by principle on their part. Convenience and defensiveness are at least as likely of culprits. Any way the game has to try to provide the first and placate the second is likely to reduce the "stagnant" population to at least some degree. There will be a remaining portion who may be "beyond saving" regardless of such improvements, but I highly doubt that's true of all players who are unwilling under present circumstances.Sorry, perhaps I worded that wrong. I'm not saying parsers in and of them selves are useless, but useless in the hands of those that don't/won't learn.
My argument is aimed more at people that think that adding a parser is going to magically turn people into knowledgeable and "good" DPS. It will help those wanting to improve, but do nothing for those that have no desire or will to.
Trying to satisfy a portion of players who wish to do everything even while only playing half of what makes the game a game makes far less sense in terms of long-term peacekeeping than trying to engage these players more fully, and gives you a higher effective population with greater morale in the process.
I'd like to have a parser in game but at the same time I don't because there are times I'd rather not have a confirmation that myself, the other tank, and the 2 healers all output more damage than all 4 of our dps in 8 man content...
This is honestly so true.
Back when Susan EX first came out I was doing some clear runs with my FC and someone comes along and joins. We asked him if he knew the fight well. One of the things he said was "Don't worry, I've already got the mount."
Needless to say, he failed every mechanic.
So now it's a joke among us, and it happens so often it's hilarious, and sad, every time.
But most of the time the people who get the good loot are the ones dead 80% of the fight. I might sound sarcastic, but I seriously believe there is something that gives bad players , good loot.
Ive debated on just being bad myself because I never get the loots.
It's not really a secret. It's called Murphy's Law.
As for my views on parsing, no matter how it's implemented--personal, group-wide, etc.--always leads to persecution regardless of the degree of justification. It turns a player into nothing more than a job icon and a fixed, meaningless number that changes constantly with each fight. Sure, it could be argued that a parser could be used to improve ability, although not only do we have systems to show how much damage you'll do on specific fights, but the belief that a parser would be used solely for positive gain like that has always seemed incredibly unrealistic given the more typical standards of hardcore raiders most likely to use--and abuse--such a tool.

When I'd like play easy, no stress, nothing to watch at, let everyone else do the dirty work and manage things up, I'll go play a DPS.
I play tank when I want easy becuase I'm good at tanking and I can't do good dps on most dps classes so why would I want to play them when I want no stress? I only play dps when I feel like trying to improve my dps. as far as I'm concerned dps is the hardest job in the game to do well.
