The only class that actually needs to do that for optimal damage is RDM. For any other class, that would actually not get you "the biggest numbers" and would be bad dps, which people with parsers usually avoid. The people that rip aggro off in the first 3 seconds(bar RDM) just think they're doing so good since they pulled hate...even though the tank hasn't had any time to establish aggro. Those kinds of people just THINK they're good and almost certaintly do not parse.

He is talking about people that jump right into doing the most optimal rotation for damage output before the tank has even secured aggro. Going full bore to get the biggest numbers they can on their parser and rip aggro like everything is a single target ex trial.

In other words, the kind of people that people with parsers want for their raid groups, but are terrible when it comes to actual dungeon content because they treat everything like its practice for raid rotation. A mindset that was also common in WoW.

Then there are the ones that just rip hate off the tank even after they have secured aggro, cause they are going full bore on a single target out of the entire group.

I think there's a mechanic that the tank HAS to limit break for, if its not bound, they might miss it. I could be mistaken though having only heard about it.

Ever since i started doing lv 40 dungeons and up playing while leveling my healer, healing has gone from some what fun to SUFFERING!

2nd Time doing Stone Vigil, I put up regen on tank, tank is a new player so I preped for constant healing just in case, tank's hp drops like a brick and I can't heal fast enough to keep up, we wipe on the first group of enemies then the next, they left after that and I kinda felt bad. Next comes Aurum veil, I cast regen on the tank and half the mobs aggro on me instantly and rush me down, I run for my dear life and try to bring the mobs to the tank who's a DrK so they can get em off me, tank does not take aggro of me and focuses on the few monster's they already have, I die, we wipe, this happens 3 TIMES IN THE SAME RUN. Is this what being a healer is like?

Welcome to tunnel-vision tanks. 9 times out of 10 they aren't actually tanks, and are simply DPS who want to skip queue times. You get healers like that as well, who never actually heal and just DPS. I'm pretty sure in both of these cases it's a matter of them having seen a tank/healer who knew what they were doing, and attempting to ape what they saw, without understanding the actual role.
And of course no one can forget the DPS who are allergic to AOE skills with 5+ mobs (no matter how hard we may try to forget). All parties can cause that kind of agony, so enjoy that.

Stone Vigil does seem to have a knack for finding the tanks who are in no way geared to actually run that place though, it happens too often for too many people to be a fluke at this point.

And finally, so I'm somewhat on topic; Why do people think it's OK to queue things like 50/60 roulette, on a level -51- job, wearing nothing but their level 45 quest set, and the chest piece from Dzemael Darkhold and level 12 jewelry? At least finish your job quests for the ilvl 90 stuff if you can't be bothered to get, or don't have the tomestones for, the ironworks gear. Or get the 115 white gear off the MB or something.

Is tanking really that fundamentally different in WoW? I've both bumped into and read about tanks moving to FFXIV from WoW only to be completely baffled by how bad they are doing here.

Tanks in WoW generate I think it's 900% increased emnity passively these days. And yet they can do damage approximate to about 2/3rds of what most DPS can pump out. Tanks havn't had to actually put a token effort in to holding aggro since the WoTLK expansion, which was a long time ago. You press your AoE button one time, and the enemies are basically yours for the entire fight.

Additionally, current day WoW tanks have far less cooldowns available to them and rely on whatever their class 'active mitigation' mechanics are. Which, yes, are basically cooldowns in their own right, save that their tanking ability is balanced around them.

Going from that to the FF14 model can be a bit jarring if you've only got experience with the WoW model.

I could be wrong, but joined a PF group to clear O2S yesterday. I'm a bit rusty, but not enough that I'm going to be a huge detriment to the group after a couple of turns in the fight....it's been a couple weeks since I fought him. When we get to first G.Wave, I did my thing as a DRK and went up, like tanks and healers are supposed to do. Sometime on the second one, I stay on the ground, I notice the other tank going up along with DPS. We all get hit with vuln, and wipe soon after. This repeats a couple more times before someone points me out and says that I'm doing it wrong. I explain that from what I've experienced, the first G. Wave needs tanks and healers to go up while DPS goes down, and vise versa on the second Wave, just because it makes more sense.

I was flat-out told by at least four people in this group that the pattern is always tanks and healers up, no matter what. I told them in response that a DPS is forced up on the second one, so it makes more sense for DPS to go up as well just to keep things less confusing. The tank more or less face pulls, so I fire off a quick message that when DPS goes up, I will stay down. Doesn't matter...we end up wiping a couple more times. I didn't say anything else because I really needed a clear and didn't want to get kicked.

We did eventually get the win on our last pull before the timer was up, but the whole time, this group was sticking strictly with tanks/healers always up for G. Wave. Unless the fight changed, I'm sure I was right to be triggered by their insistence on this.

But I do my optimal rotation always. And my dungeon runs are smooth and very fast because of it. And I don't rip aggro off any tank unless they're just really bad or they don't use aggro combo at all before trying dps stance. But even if I do rip aggro, I use aggro reduction skills. And I don't parse....I'm on PS4 lol.

Are you actively asking people to suck just so a bad tank can keep aggro? It's actually impossible to steal aggro if you only use aggro combo. Hell as a PLD main it takes maybe 3 tops then I can actually just SwO for the entire fight, no matter how long. No tank should ever be losing aggro in tank stance. Ever. They make it damn near impossible unless you actively stop hitting the boss or are HEAVILY outgeared...and even if you are outgeared, aggro combo spam will always keep aggro 100% of the time.

Nope, tanks and healers are definitely always going up. When one healer/tank gets bound down a DPS gets raised, so it's easier for everyone to just do what they're used to if they aren't locked in to a height. That way it's always 4/4 and there's no vuln stacks. So yeah you were in the wrong on that, grats on your clear though. I've had some O2S and O3S runs worthy of posting ITT but I definitely don't want to dredge up those memories.
