Leveling gear? just meld some IV or V DH/crit (whatever is cheaper, at one point DH V was like 2k so i melded it in leveling gear, now that it varies between 7-14k I use DH IV)
Whatever the highest sub stay on a gear is is cap so just meld the opposite of what you can't

Also in general Ilevel > sub stats, and you really do not need to meld leveling gear to begin with, unless you have some obsession in max in whatever you do (I do to an extent so I do meld leveling gear)

"keeping Crit and Direct Hit at about roughly the same number for the optimal Critical Direct Hit"

not sure if that is a thing, not something I heard of anyway. Pretty sure it is still ilevel > that concern.
    post cap:

Just something funny that happened when I was level 67, cuz its leet and all, but really you don't really care about secondaries unless it is the same ievel, esp for leveling gear, its ilevel > anything else. I am not too sure if "I've seen some people talk about that if Crit and Dir are close in numbers the chances of Critical Direct Hits are higher" is a thing
(I forgot to take a picture with my real glam, that is after i made that head peace for myself because it was a crit/det and got to overmeld it)

I've seen some people talk about that if Crit and Dir are close in numbers the chances of Critical Direct Hits are higher. I would need to test it but this gives me a chance to test. I mostly melded gear so that I have a decent DPS second stats.

Anyone here heard of this? despite this, isn't still ilevel > this factor? DH> crit for melds?

Sounds like a misconception to me. I mean yeah mathematically if you have x = probability of crit and y = probability of dh, to maximize x*y = probability of crit and dh assuming we know the maximum sum x + y, is to make x and y roughly equal. But the thing here is that x and y are probabilities, i.e. crit/dh proc chances, not the stat numbers. We only know the maximum sum of stats (something like, at i340 with melds, crit + dh stats max at 4000 for a certain job, or something like that). Keeping x and y roughly equal is impossible due to the nature of dh's faster scaling compared to crit. You can easily get 40%+ dh rate, while your crit rate is probably in the range of 15-20%.

I figured that was the case but unlike some I do not dismiss claims when I do not know better.

But ya , TC for leveling gear melding is not very important, most don't. But you can always meld some cheap DH, then crit if DH is maxed, I mean I did but the only reason I did it is because I can. If you are even tight in gil in the slightest (asking if this is worth it) then the answer is do not worry about melds on leveling gear and do ilevel> everything else.
