I seriously wish we could make proper polls on these forums...

More to the point though, for people saying that they think the laguage locked servers will actually be outside of Japan...not happening. It costs far too much to have regional servers based in each region, Square Enix will NEVER do it for FFXIV.

I'll always be pro regional, but I do think they should give the option for international servers aswell as regional.

Not really, they already have a HQ in the US and Edios in the UK, the rest is just hardware and bandwidth costs, considering they are shelling out for new servers anyway it wouldn't cost a great deal more to split the hardware cost over 3 regions.

Yes it will cost more in terms of employees but if they want this game to be successful they have to expect to spend money.

Hell even free to play MMO's have regional servers.

for the "latency fact" Yoshida said, that they want to overwork the whole server structure like the game client as well.
maybe it will lead into a better responding with less lag.
Regardless of their server speed it still takes 300 ms for me (UK) to ping Japan, it takes the average US connection 150-200 to ping Japan and the average Japanese player takes 16 ms to ping their servers.

Some EU players are getting 400-500 ms latency.

-Employing a few staff to maintain the servers

It's not just having a place to put the servers, costs rise exponentially by not having all your servers in one location. Like I said it's far too expensive and it wont happen.

Why is it that F2P MMO's can afford it and do it then or are you saying that it won't happen because SE are too tight and don't care about their playerbase ?

    It's pretty simple.

If the 'regional' servers are physically local (instead of being on the other side of the world), I'm PRO-REGIONAL.

Otherwise, if 'regional' on pertains to language, I'm PRO-INTERNATIONAL.

I am pro regional and language based servers for a few reasons.

    1. I don't have to struggle with autotranslate and/or not being able to understand another player.
    2. Everyone speaks the same primary language.
    3. Frees up development time that was previously allocated to auto-translate functions.
    4. Creates a better sense of community.
    5. Reduces lag (if location based).

Ultimately, SE should just designate some English, Japanese, German, French, etc language specific servers. Then they should also have a couple international servers for those who would like to.

It is a win/win situation for everyone involved.

    Choices = happy customers.

Many F2P MMO's are actually not very demanding on servers, large games like XIV are. Costs are alot lower.
