A pet-focused class wouldn't work unless they resolved a lot of existing issues with pets, such as several AoEs arbitrarily bypassing their innate AoE damage reduction and the pet AI in general being kind of bad.

But walking into a new boss fight was like having a minigame built into it, the "Which AoE gibs boogerbird" minigame
If they just did what they do in the video (stand there and attack), they wouldn't need AI. You don't micromanage your pets with modern demo locks. Instead, it's about building and maintaining a swarm.
I don't know how legion addresses pet survivability, if it does at all.
