Sorta offtopic, but the WoW token made it much easier for even a newer player to obtain them, it just requires throwing a bit of extra money at Blizzard, and joining a random tradechat guild. They can basically buy a WoW token, sell it for around 135k (or around 210k if on EU), and buy a full set of the exp bonus heirlooms (helm, shoulders, cloak, chest, pants) + the items to upgrade them all to 110, for 42.5k.

Then again, a new player would just use the free boost to 100 anyway.

As for heirlooms in XIV? I dunno, maybe ones that only increase in stats as you level up. The armoury system already handles the increased exp part that WoW heirlooms give.
