And at what point is your proposition of the polar opposite "Someone likes it so it should be in the game" not being obtuse?

I believe a middle ground is the solution, brings peoples ideas into the game if they're logically (Within the universe) sound and not absolutely an eyeroll like Angel Wings.

Fair point that it sounds like I'm just presenting the negative to your positive. I come firmly from the camp of "more items = more options" so it's going to color a lot of my opinions on if something is acceptable or not. I don't like that we have "tanks" wearing bikinis into battles they should be wearing plate into, fighting beside a giant gold pig mascot looking person in a life or death war is .. odd. But I don't think my personal dislike trumps their option to look as they wish.

Why are angel wings an auto eyeroll? is it any more tropey than the "sexy mage" outfit?

How is the "dun use it den" argument not valid in the context of video games and choosing to do something that is, in every single way, optional? I never understood the hate for an actually sound reply like that, regardless of how fitting in context it is, outside of the fact it serves as a valid retort to literally shut down complaints with a straightforward response. What would you tell someone opposed to the very idea of the glamour system for their own character?

People can have their reasons or opinions, and they should be allowed to openly express them, but it doesn't mean it makes those opinions good or important. As such, if it can be reasonably shut down by a simple response like "dun use it den", then there's a good chance it didn't mean much to begin with.

Side note: I do agree about the opinion of wings being tacky, as others have stated lol. Whatever though, if people want it, I see no reason to not ask for it.

Yes, I would like "Cherub" wings at least.
Not a fan of huge Aion like wings.

EDIT: For those who wanna talk about "immersion" or so...
Mechanical Wings by Cid could fit the bill?

Long story short, you'd have a pretty haphazard game if "dun use it den" was the holy apex of reasoning on the addition of every thought that has ever gone through someones head.

I believe it to be the laziest retort. How can you compete with it when you give it that sort of power? I could ask for a flying underwater turkey taco cat dinosaur and you'd have to accept that it's a good idea because you don't have to use it. That's why I don't give that argument such obscene power in community discussion- because it would lead to a lot of dumpster fires if it was actually true and SE took it to heart all the time.

The way I see it, it is a valid argument... in a single player game. In an MMO, a player has no control over what others use as glamour, but are forced to still see it. Short of implementing a client-side option to turn off others' glamours, a player that doesn't like it still has to deal with it.

I personally just roll my eyes at ridiculous (imo) costumes and move on, but I've known people that won't touch MMOs because characters using the goofy or out of place glamours ruins the aesthetic for them.

Honestly I felt the same way on mechanical wings, like the goblins working on it. I mean they do seem to have some kind of knowledge or at least the ones in Brayflox HM that I recall.

Fair enough. I do agree that there are going to be instances where that reply does do damage as far as discussion goes for potential problems, and giving a lazy reply like that too much social power is ridiculous. I'd say cases like this though, with a non-controversial vanity request, is where it seems fine. I want to point out though that even a silly request like the one you used as an example sounds fair enough to me with a game like this lol. People can ask for as serious of a vanity good or as stupid of a vanity good. I'd say they're both fine here. How the devs would work in a flying/swimming turkey taco cat dinosaur though is beyond me... mad scientist?

I'd argue that's more of a players problem than a problem for the game itself. What I mean is, if the devs promote the idea of being silly with your look, then that's basically what you should expect players to take advantage of. We have many silly outfits that the devs intentionally add to the game for the intent of pure fun (the "haha" sort of fun). I mean, some NPCs are made to have that silliness be a defining characteristic lol. Now, if the devs intended to have a strictly serious sort of approach to their worlds aesthetics, then that'd certainly warrant concern if they suddenly decide to throw in silly stuff, but that's not the case. The devs clearly like their vanity to have both be available (hence why we even have a Gamera reference mount).
