I agree with the OP in that only being able to gear one job at a time because of weekly lockouts is not fun at all.

Having a weekly lockout on certain gear is fine, especially if it's powerful enough to warrant it. The problem with this in FFXIV is that gearing the sole method of character progression . There isn't any other way to affect your character's performance in a party or otherwise outside of gear. But this gear is on a weekly lockout in FFXIV, essentially equating to any sort of character progression having a weekly lockout. And when you get the gear...time for another game?

Personally I found the most fun part of Stormblood was getting to level 70 and being able to get verity tomestone gear for whichever jobs I wanted if I'm willing to grind, or I could just do it slowly, one job at a time if I didn't want to spend too long grinding.

Now, with everything on lockout I rarely feel like I have any reason to log in. I can't make any plans to progress my character because weekly tomestone lockouts mean I have to wait until next week. I can't progress my character outside of gear because no such system exists. I couldn't do Savage if I wanted to because of the weekly lockouts (and it wouldn't be fair to make someone miss out on a chest because I was bored lol). The result is that anytime I do log in, I just want to log out because there's nothing substantial left to do

When did they put the i320 crafted gear on lockout? Last I checked, all it requires is materials gathered from nodes, and materials bought with verity tomestones. i320 is still 10 ilvls above the verity gear that you (seemingly) so enjoyed farming for, so it counts as gear progression.

Or is that number going from i310 to i320 simply not a big enough step for you?

And if you bothered to look at my character profile you'd have noticed I'm wearing some crafted gear, I haven't blown my girl on a full set for every class, because why would I?
Not sure why you're trying to make out as if I even made any reference to crafted gear, which I didn't.
Yeah you can buy it as much as you want, and then what? Go back to afk?
Crafted gear mainly exists for those who want to attempt Savage content before they're 'supposed' to in the raid cycle. If you aren't doing cutting edge content then gearing up with fully overmelded crafted gear is of little benefit. Why would I spend millions of Gil buying / gear I know I don't need? Is that seriously people's idea of fun? There isn't anything rewarding or interesting about saving up Gil to buy gear, it's entirely different from tomestones where you can keep spamming dungeons and eventually have enough.
That's not even accounting for the fact that Gil exists for more than just gear, unlike tomestomes at the start of SB

Because it's still gear progression? Is that not what you're asking for? Until all your jobs are wearing equal or higher than i320 gear, the crafted gear will still be part of the gear progression.

"Now, with everything on lockout I rarely feel like I have any reason to log in." You referenced it right there, claiming everything is on a lockout, which is factually incorrect, as crafted gear has no lockout.

I dunno, the same thing you'd do if you had been able to freely farm Creation tomes, and geared everything up?

Crafted gear is an alternative way to gear up characters, since it's higher ilvl than uncapped tomes, not just limited to the cutting edge raiding crowd

And somehow, this changes when the upgrades are bought with tomes alone? Why would you spend countless hours farming for gear you don't need?

You mean like the verity tomes that you can farm to buy some of the materials for the set? There's also the option to level a gatherer, and farm the rest of the materials yourself. Look at that, something to work on and you're not just spending gil! Two birds, one stone, etc.

So you care about gear progression, but not enough to spend gil on. What else are you gonna spend it on? (Also the previous part of my post goes over this)
