I personally think SCH is in a really good place(besides aoes if intom is on CD) BUT I think the Fairies are incredibly weak and almost not worth having anymore outside of Fey Union and maybe Whispering Dawn.

Magical damage reduction is really useful, especially if you can place it so it two incoming AoE (like the Wave > Quake > Wave in O2S).
Also it grants damage reduction while being spread, wich comes handy at the some weird "everyone explode at their respective spots" moment of savage content.
Eos is pretty good, IMO.
Even the last spell is something you can throw when you know intense group healing is coming.
The (probable) real issue with pets isn't a much the "pet tax" (which is caused by pets having separate base stats than the master), but more that pet skills never upgrade.
Stats increase as players level up and get new gear, but potency-per-second also increases as they get new skills. This is easily apparent on healers, who each have a single-target damage spell that gets a straight potency increase at specific levels. But pet skills never upgrade. They never get a straight potency increase on their skills. So as they players level up, the pets potency-based skills becomes less and less powerful by comparison to players and content.
It's not a complete travesty, though, as pet utility skills (like Fey Wind and Fey Illumination) maintain their usefulness at all levels of play (because they're potency-free).
Probably the easiest solution for this (if it's not already the case) would be to have pet stats scale at a slightly steeper increase per-level to compensate for their static-potency skills.
Aside from that, I really have no qualms about the faeries aside from Silent Dusk being a bit too niche. Maybe they could add a "Lowers target's magic damage dealt by 5%" with a duration of 10s in addition to the silence effect. The AI could still use the skill whenever the target uses a magic-based attack and it would always be effective even if silence is resisted.
What's the point of having Silent Dusk if it always get used on enemies that fully resist Silence. Fey Caress goes off for debuffs that can't be cleared too. It's crazy because Eos has skills that are always useful while half of Selene's tool kit gets dismissed or wasted regularly. I use Fey Wind all the time but I'd be lying if I said I could actually tell the difference. I dont even think it matters during DPS checks. Why is there a fairy with only one reliable skill, and its Embrace, the single skill both fairies share.
I completely understand that keeping your Fairy alive is part of the fun of playing a Scholar but I am baffled by why there is no trait to reduce the mana cost and/or cast time to switch between the fairies if you already have one active. I switch between the two regularly especially in dungeons when the extra healing just isn't going to be necessary and tend to waste Swift Cast on this. A "Tactical Shift" Trait similar to the reduced cast times BLMs get going between Fire3 and Blizzard3 would be awesome. I expect it would also have to ensure that the current fairy's hp is carried over to the new one to prevent Scholars from cheating their way to a full heal but I would be alright with that.

Honestly my biggest issues with the fairies are two-fold:
1. We haven't gotten a new one in two expansions. Even Summoners got B-Hams, I mean throw us a bone or something. And,
2. The responsiveness has actually gotten worse for me. Like it was always bad but now the amount of slamming the button it takes to make Eos do a Whispering Dawn before half the pull is dead is just abysmal. I understand the netcode was initially built on toothpicks and sticky tack but we're 70 levels in- are they really going to just let it coast for the game's entire life?
Not like Eos' AI is any better. If Eos is accidentally left on Sic she will burn all of her cooldowns in a matter of seconds. I haven't noticed Selene trying to cleanse uncleansable debuffs yet, but I'll keep an eye out. As for Silent Dusk, the current AI would be fine if it had an effect on mobs that resisted the silence (like lowering magic damage dealt).
1. Does Scholar really need a new aspect for their faerie, though? Summoner and Scholar are both pet jobs, but that doesn't mean they're competing for quantity.Honestly my biggest issues with the fairies are two-fold:

2. Probably because Whispering Dawn is a spell rather than an ability, so it has both a cast time and requires waiting out the pet GCD. I have noticed that it's hard to queue up Fey Illumination and Whispering Dawn together. Eos seems to always weave in an Embrace between the two skills.
You really can't call sch a true pet class when one pet is almost useless the other is somewhat useless at higher levels and they haven't been updated for 2 expansions. I feel Eos is a toggle skill that you just turn on and leave on because she's just there for like emotional support . I've brought this up many places and I see many people agree that they need a update but I just keep hoping someone on the ffxiv team sees it and brings it up![]()
Eos needs to be a Single target Fairy. Replace whispering dawn with a ST regen
Selene needs to be the AoE heal Fairy. Pulses AoE heals on Fey Union. Give Whispering Dawn, Lose Speed Debuff
Dissipate needs to switch active fairy for no mana, instant.
Problem solved.
I agree but - I just wish they would listen to the players on this and do something
