    I was honestly hoping that they'd raise the weekly advanced tomestone limit to 900 but of course, they didn't do that. We have 15 DoW/DoM classes/jobs. I haven't done the math but if you want to gear up all 15 jobs... let's see... MNK SAM DRG share the same accessories, BRD NIN MCH share the same accessories also... BUT. Assuming that you have all 15 jobs at 70 with the weekly tome cap as is:

    headpiece, gloves, boots at 495 each x3 = 1485
    chest, pants at 825 each x2 = 1650
    belt, earrings, necklace, bracers, ring at 375 each x5 = 1875
    weapon = 1000 (+7 weeks to get that special tomestone)

    All of which adds up to 6010 for one class/job. Let's say MNK. Add 4510 for DRG (minus 1500 since it shares accessories), another 4510 for SAM. (All the STR jobs)
    Add 6010 for PLD. 4510 twice for WAR and DRK. (All the VIT jobs)
    Add 6010 for BRD. 4510 twice again for MCH and NIN. (All the DEX jobs)
    Add 6010 for WHM. 4510 twice for AST and SCH. (All the MND jobs)
    Add 6010 for BLM. 4510 twice for SMN and RDM. (All the INT jobs)

    After all that awful addition, the total number of tomes you need to have every single creation gear piece is 75,150. Now... because you can only have 450 tomes per week, you'll need 167 weeks to get this many tomes. Of which, that is approximately 41-42 months. I mean, are you friggin' kidding me? No matter how hard we try, we're not going to cap every single class. Not even close to it. If every major patch comes out about every 3.5 months, let's say 4 for the sake of all this math, that's 16 weeks per major patch. That's only 7200 tomes. And another 16 weeks later, a new advanced tome will be released with the next major patch.

    Anyway, I probably did all this math for nothing but I wanted to point out that it would be okay if they doubled the weekly advanced tome cap to 900. It'll allow us to gear up more classes and it'll open up more things that people *want* to do. I understand gating but when it takes *this* much to gear up fully with all the classes, then there is no point in gating.

    I only did all that awful math to point out that there is still no "gearing up too fast" if they raised that 450 weekly limit to 900. I'd like to be able to get a chest piece in one week instead of two. And on top of that, there are other options for gear as was already pointed out. So there is really no reason why they couldn't raise the weekly cap in the first place.

You're not considering verity gear (which is enough to run any non-savage content), crafted gear, omega normal gear, and savage gear (for people who do raid the highest difficulty, along which i320 weapons from Susano, and i320 accessories from Lakshmi.

    With all that in mind, I'd say the 450 weekly cap is sufficient.

    Also another reason is that you can cap 450 with 5 daily experts, in case a player ends up without much time to play for a week. This is likely done intentionally, so those players don't feel pressed to farm the double amount of times every week.

    Gating exists partially so that people will focus on gearing the jobs they specialize in. I can't even imagine how horrible it would be if someone just decided they were good enough at all fifteen jobs to play whatever they wanted in end-game content without the experience to back it up. What a drag on others that would be. "What's your main?" "ALL OF THEM!" "Get out."

So, we have Fending (PLD/WAR/DRK), Maiming (DRG), Striking (MNK/SAM), Aiming (BRD/MCH), Scouting (NIN), Casting (SMN/BLM/RDM), and Healing (WHM/AST/SCH), for the left side (not including weapons). For right side (accessories), we have Fending, Slaying (Melee DPS except NIN), Aiming (Ranged + NIN), Casting, and Healing.

    So you need significantly less tomestones than your math implies. 6010 for PLD, 1000 twice for WAR/DRK. To use tanks as an example.

    Yeah, I was off now that I'm looking at it better and when I'm not doing 5 million things at once. It should be:

    6010 for PLD, then 1000 more for WAR and DRK. (total 8010 here)

    Grand total 47,070. That's still about 105 weeks. For anyone who really wants this math...

    At any rate, I never said it was a problem. It was just a preference. A preference that I'm sure that at least a few others would agree to. (Which, again, is raising the weekly tome limit to 900.)
