While I'm happy with many cross role skills for most roles.
Healer disapointed me a lot (and I main heal unfortunately T_T)
Protect feels like a wasted slot that can't be ignored. Yes, only one needs it but still, it sucks.
Esuna being required on a few select fight is probably the worst, if the fight has no debuff, it's a wasted skill, if it has one, it's recommanded, if it has a "buff kills you after 10sec", it's required so again, no brainer.
Lucid Dream brings back too much mana to be overlooked, so again, mantadory.
Swiftcast isn't really mandatory but if you don't have a smn there's no other effective way to rez players.
Something nice they could do would be to reduce rez cast time to 4sec. I wouldn't mind to have a 30sec-1min cd as a tradeoff on it. If you need more than 2-3 rez a min, usually your raid went bad enough that LB3 heal start becoming an option. I also find spam rez to be a bit retarded.
So.. how many actual option do we have?

It's really weird that aside from maybe Swiftcast all the dps role actions are largely optional or job-specific while three or four role actions for tanks and healer each are unavoidable auto-picks.
I'd love to see Protect either vanish or turn into an ogcd mitigation cooldown.
Actually, it's a straight copy/merging of the spells Protectra/Shellra from FFXI, which pre-dates WoW.Protect comes from the same vein of design as World of Warcraft's various half-hour class buffs, such as Arcane Intellect or, more specifically, Priest's Power Word: Fortitude. They're a fun little idea to give healers additional party synergy, though they lose class flavor when all healing jobs get the same spell.

Actually, on savage if a player die, and don't have protect when he come back, even full HP he can die on the next mechanic (Meteor O4S, for example).
So, I think it's the job of healer to keep in mind everybody need protect.
Now, it would be nice if some opponents in the futur could remove benefic conditions ^^, to allow healer to cast protect again.
Protect should be changed to a temporary but more potent version of its current state. 2.5 minute cooldown -10% damage for 10 seconds. Or something similar. Make it useful as a reaction skill.
Where were all these protect haters at the last two expansions? Oh it's cuz you're too lazy to either swap it out or you want an extra gimme move for free.
I'm indifferent to whether it's here or gone. I just find it funny no one cares until the new cross role system.
