Speaking of tanks not holding aggro against big mobs, I'm leveling PLD. For leveling roulette I got Stone Vigil twice and Tam Tara before getting the ship graveyard. First thing I do is shield lob and total eclipse. I start spamming it, but can't hold aggro. I make sure I have Shield Oath, I do. I provoke and go back to total eclipse. Still have issues. Before gettong off the boat, I read what total eclipse does. And I go, Oh total eclipse doesn't have enmity. One of the DPS speaks up and tells me it's good against 4+ and then adds after aggro is established. I gave him my comm for being friendly.
It's fine to use on 3+ targets potency-wise, but you're still going to want to hit flash a couple times before you start spamming it. Though you need to make sure to tab through and watch for when you need to stop and work in single target threat again.Speaking of tanks not holding aggro against big mobs, I'm leveling PLD. Was running my PLD to 70 yesterday, and had an amusing moment in Doma Castle. Second boss, I screw up and get bounced all over the place by the mines (forgetting that the actual threat zones for those are a good bit larger than the indicators before they show up), and then type in a quick note of annoyance in party chat. The healer replies with 'bouncy bouncy' - and then he accidentally hits a mine after getting the stack up marker - and dies. He then amends with 'bouncy bouncy splat'. Boss still had half health, but since it doesn't really do that much damage the rest of us were able to finish the fight with Clemency keeping the group alive (and the black mage helping that by using mana shift on me).
We had a good laugh about it afterwards.
My go to for pulling(when I have up to my level 60 skills available) on PLD is to Shield Lob->Circle of Scorn->Flash 2-3 times(more if the pull is larger and they are shuffling around)->going through rotation, alternating what skill hits what enemy. Even on the small mobs I throw out a CoS as soon as it's ready, because any damage increase that I can do helps. Maybe not drastically, but since it doesn't mess up my rotations at all, it gets used...a lot.Speaking of tanks not holding aggro against big mobs, I'm leveling PLD. So I went with some friends for PoTD and we ran the floors 51 to 100 in one go for the night.
I felt like going BLM cuz of high single target ranged DPS.
5 bosses, 2 AoE each per fight, 9 out of those 10 were aimed at me with my Ley Lines...
I was always skeptical about Ley Lines being an AoE magnet but... I can hardly reject the idea after that experience =-=
Lakshmi normal:
We have a new tank and explain mechanics to him prior to the fight.
-bosom happens-
-New tank dies because he didn't vril
-Not new tank just now discovers you can fall off
-I am now tanking
-We get both tanks up, but they time it poorly
*room wide aoe starts happening*
-3 people press vril for that
-Everyone left just jumps off.
2nd attempt
-Every time someone is targeted with the aoe, the tank ran the boss all over the entire room trying to avoid it, screwing with the people who were trying to position the AoEs
-got the tank to stop moving
-People with aoes start deciding that they either didn't feel like dealing with it (a sam just stood in melee because his deeps) or that they're not happy with where they decided to sit anymore and start repositioning as they are about to go off.
Here's another one, and i'm still processing this.
We enter PotD floor 31 with DRK (me) PLD, BRD, and SAM.
We grab the first few mobs and step onto a pacification trap and only the SAM and BRD are unaffected. PLD steps into the entrance to the next room and pulls another mob, then the BRD pulls one we didn't aggro. They're getting aggro and we can't do anything. The PLD and SAM die as pacification wears off. I try to regain aggro but the BRD is running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I die, and the there's only about 1 add left and the BRD can't finish it off. She dies, and we fail
On the first floor.
So I met a very inexperienced Paladin in Aurum Vale. I will call him Howard. I join up 4 minutes in (probably traumatizing the healer that was there before)
Sprout, level 50, in tin can armor instead of class quest armor.
Howard is the type of guy that goes straight through the middle in the first room.
Then he wipes the group on the first boss because he doesn't eat fruit, proceeds to go back and manages to pull 2 adds while focussing entirely on the boss and letting me die.
Did I mention he was French and probably a ps4 player who doesn't type? The rest of the dungeon goes as well as you would expect except on the final boss I auto translated how to deal with the fruits and he managed to do it, except he turned off shield oath so even with me auto translating shield oath he manages to do the fight without. Since he gave me such a laugh I auto translated mentioning the class quest to him so he can terrorize less duty finder parties.
Got 3 commendations, Howard approved.
> Queued as PLD for Level 50/60 DR
> Got an "In Progress" DR Alert, 25 minutes.
> Got The Wanderer's Palace (Hard). Cool, nice break from the other dungeons I usually get
> New BLM and MNK, both complained about Tank and Healer leaving and that both Tank and Healer were awful.
> I just took it at their word
> Got a Mentor WHM, and we were good to go
> Pulled that last three mobs before the 2nd boss... DPS struggled to kill the mobs.
> Pulled second boss, DPS were not seeing which totems gave DMG boost... we ended up wiping.
> Tried the fight again, once we found out which totems did gave the DMG boost, we tried to allow the DPS to take them... eventually the WHM and I just hogged them since the DPS would rather keep turning into frogs.
> Found out that MNK was not using Fist of Fire and refused to use Fist of Fire. Both WHM and I nicely asked for the MNK to do it and what benefits it could bring.
> BLM would do Fire 3 > Blizzard 3 > Fire 3 > Blizzard > repeat. Never building stacks. Also didn't use Thunder.
> WHM tried to help the BLM, BLM got angry and left.
> MNK left
> Two new DPS joined immediately and we burned through the rest of the dungeon.
