NO!! My problem with cashshops in general is that they make you pay for things that should be in the game already, kinda like DLC on that's already on the disk. I can understand for f2p where the only revenue is cash shop items but those games typically make you pay more per month than a p2p game and are on the whole a lot more crappy.
This is how I prefer my experience to be:
Me: "Hey, sweet looking gear Random Guy!"
RG: "Oh yeah man, I just whooped (Insert HNM's name) and was lucky enough to get the drop."
Me: "Wicked, I think I might go do that some time and get it"
And not like this:
Me: "Hey, sweet looking gear Random Guy!"
RG: "Oh yeah, I just bought it for 1 easy payment of my soul from the cash shop"
Me: "..........................#@%&"
Just saying... I rather earn with the game than through cash. I will quit with out a second's hesitation if they institute a cash shop. The only thing I agree with selling are things that shouldn't be changed in the first place, like your server and your name. Other than that... NO!!
I want to see a WoW-like cash shop with pets and mounts, as well as character re-customization, server transfer, mobile features. Maybe furniture for housing or chocobo armor too.
Nothing more, though. And it can't impede the production of standard content or it defeats the purpose.
Let's break it down.People automatically thing that cash shop = horrible
Leave out the bad of a cash shop, EXP bonus, high end gear, items, mats
All the cash shop would need (and still be harmless)
new hairstyles
new character creation options (cosmetic only)
costume type outfits
character restyle chance
server transfer
wedding service
New Hairstyles no. Hairstyles should be available to everyone. If they're going to offer hairstyle change as a charged feature, they should at least offer free change coupons when they add new hairstyles. But why this can't be a feature in the game paid with with in game currency remains and unanswered point.
"New Character Creation Options."
If you're preferring to perhaps race/gender change, I can see how this could be a paid option to dissuade against it being done frequently. But this should be balanced under restyle chance.
Right now, they're already allowing for possibility of Race change free once the new races for 2.0 come out. They SHOULD IMO allow gender change for those who want to move from female mi'quote to male mi'quote as an example. Having this done as a paid feature may be acceptable afterwards. However, there is a logistics problem here about buying/selling accounts.
Costume outfits, no. Those can be crafted in game or given away as event items. No need to put them on an RL paying market.
Server Transfer is a paid service in FFXI so I don't see a problem there. It does take some effort to transfer info over from one server to another so having that barrier of entry is understandable.
Not sure about paying for Wedding service (don't know if it was paid in FFXI or not, never did anything with it.) But I could see it as a posible option.
But none of these are actual 'shop' things to do, so much as they are options you can pay to have done for you. They are services, likely of the kind that would require extra work out of the GM or development teams.
When people say "Cash Shop" They usually think of items or pets or some other sort of extra, non service product that would give them a tactical or aesthetic advantage. These are the things typically met with animosity, and reasonably so.
weddings were free in ffxi but really all costumes should be free, stats or no stats. everyone seems to be trying to say what they would or wouldn't want to pay more for ...really it's just the stuff they know they would never put money into for most part, yeah u can charge for this cause i don't want it. reality is se shouldn't be targeting any of it's customers for more money. fact if you have a payed dlc costume in a fighter game like marvel vs capcom i probably will log out on you lmao.
who desides what is a full part of the game or hey this is enough content and lets charge for the rest in extra's? games used to take 100 hours to beat not 10-20hours. things that were extra came from free codes or beating the game or challenges not paying more.
but any who like i said earlier i'd pay for more story lines in the game in forms of mini expansions, don't want pay for items but i'd happily take a full blown new story with many bosses and quests and missions/party play/farming that all ends in a epic fight and a new piece of gear that isn't all be of all be gears but something worth the time. that way we have obviously many storylines that wouldn't be in game otherwise, if i take ffxi for example they only have 1 long story line so having an extra 3 stuck into it for 10bucks a pop while we wait for the main/new expansion story is all good to me. but again that's just me.
but i would never play this game if it had a regular cash shop, even the charm they sold on the ffxi site that gave you easy porting kinda anoyed me i refused to buy that, but i happily bought all 3 mini expansions. yeah they were a little more grindy and run everywhere like but they had great fights and story was good to boot and you felt like you earn the pieces of gear in them. i would go as far as saying that if game went to crazy with mounts and stats and stuff i'd get really anoyed. but i guess we have like what 1.5years b4 we know ..or even se knows witch directions it wants to go.
I don't get it...I want to see a WoW-like cash shop with pets and mounts, as well as character re-customization, server transfer, mobile features. Maybe furniture for housing or chocobo armor too.
Nothing more, though. And it can't impede the production of standard content or it defeats the purpose.
Why would people want to pay extra for items that could just as well be included as part of the game you buy and pay a sub for?
Is there something I'm missing?
Do some people feel they're not paying enough to play and would like ways to pay more?
Is it for a sense of exclusivity? That by having certain things available only through a cash shop, they would be "rare" on their server since they know there are others who wouldn't buy them?
I'm not being facetious here. I honestly don't understand why people would want to spend more than they are to get in-game items. Mind you, I don't mean "wouldn't mind it", but actually would ask for it...

Cash shops are one of the reasons ruining gaming, no, no, god no, hell no, F- no.
I think a cash shop can be tastefully done. As long as it doesn't ruin the economy of the game. Features such as:
Private Housing floor tiles
Hair color/style change
Face change (maybe this one I am iffy with)
Chocobo feather dyes (to color the tips of your chocobo with)
Unique fireworks or temporary costumes (for when you have some stupid crysta balance of 10 or something)
These are just minor examples of what the cash shop could be like. Money for the company, satisfaction for the user and no complaining about how broken something is from the community.
Cash shops don't HAVE to have the 5 power ranger outfits or some crazy UFO mounts that you see elsewhere.
In 3 years time playing the game, maybe I might have the urge to have a new hair look or something. I'd gladly pay to have it done. Sometimes small things like this help refresh a game without having to demand more content. I know in 11 if I could change my head hair style I definitely would do so in a heartbeat as well.
no thx on the cash shop.
Just for the record they plan to add in a barbershop that you use Gil to pay for, which is much more user friendly than having to shell out real money for something as stupid as changing your hair. Why would you want to pay real cash for something like this? Also Chocobo dyes should be created in game by a crafting class or something, same with fireworks. Also temp costumes should be gained from events or possibly even quests/crafters. I don't understand this want of spending cash, when it could be content that makes the game more fun.I think a cash shop can be tastefully done. As long as it doesn't ruin the economy of the game. I'm one of those all or nothing players, meaning that I want all of my game (within reason) for me to play or none of it, this includes costumes, dyes, and all that silly stuff that you don't care about. I like earning my gear, I like earning my levels, I like spending my in game gil I earned from playing and not have it cheapened because someone can use real cash and get things I can't because I decided to spend my money on food/rent/bills.
Not too mention I find cash shops hypocritical when game companies are out to stomp RMT's, because cash shop usually promotes those behaviors. Ever see someone selling a cash shop item for gold? That's basically RMT right there lol.
