Your main priority is keeping people alive. AST has a hard time finding openings to DPS in SB right now. I usually roll in diurnal sect to give myself some free time, but without a spammable stun like WHM, or passive healing like SCH, we don't get as much DPS time as the others.

Healers "heal", hence the name. DPS is optional, nice but OPTIONAL.

And BRDs don't need to support, because "singing" is not included in "DPS"? Please don't use this argument, it's really bad. DPSing as a healer is not optional, because you're supposed to do it when you're familiar with your job. It's true you're supposed to get comfortable with healing first, but there are plenty of opportunities for healer to DPS from the very first dungeons in the game, and if you're not experiencing any particular difficulties from your party or in learning your job, you should be able to contribute to DPS from Sastasha onwards.

AST is in super strong position right now and unless the tank is really bad and/on undergeared, there's opportunities for good DPS contribution in all content. Having leveled AST and playing it in exp, expert, Omega, and extreme primal content since SB release, I've only had 2 tanks I've really had to focus to heal. But I haven't had any runs in any content where I've been unable to do any DPS at all.

Adding DPS to your healer rotation, especially in Lv60+ dungeons, is really something for advanced Healers - especially if the tank is pulling anything more than 3 mobs. In order to DPS on large pulls you need to know exactly what you have the time to do and how you will recover from it.

Heya, so update on my healing career. I'm level 70 now and I'm a lot more comfortable with healing. Things have improved a good deal, I'm starting to get tanks that are more sturdy and give me time to dps here an there (though still a bit of a no go on large pulls unless I luck out on a Bole). Also, I'm no longer feeling like I'm forcing myself to be a healer and starting to find a good deal of enjoyment in it. Also I've finally gotten over my previous worries and now just do things at my own speed rather than what I think people want of me and runs have been smooth sailing (though I do wish I had a better keyboard to provide conversation to make runs more enjoyable). Anywho, now that my guy is becoming a dedicated healer, by choice instead of force, I figured I'd introduce him to his healer brothers and sisters. Ignore the weapon though, still working on the Anima weapon questline to get him that awesome Ast glowy weapon at the end.

DPS is just to fill in downtime. If there's no downtime from healing then you're not expected to DPS at all. If you get time to toss out a combust now and then, great. If not, that's fine too

But, when the whole party is handling their jobs correctly (and playing content they're somewhat familiar with), there should always be time for DPS.
