Who in the world bails on Haukke Manor of all things because there's a new player? Especially if it's a DPS -- they could be AFK the whole dungeon and it literally would not matter. I'm glad you stuck around and the dungeon ended up finished, though. Hope the healer enjoyed their penalty.

To contribute with my own story: I queue up with three friends (myself as a BRD with a DRG, WHM, and DRK) for the trial roulette. Thornmarch: Hard. Easy peasy. Go through the normal motions of annihilating the Moogles in the first phase, the Good King gets spawned, go about my business killing the BLMog when suddenly, we wipe. I can't recall ever wiping before to a roomwide ultimate like that, so I am confused (as are the three friends I'm on Discord with). I really don't remember what makes that wipe happen -- I'm still not sure honestly -- but I suggest that maybe it has something to do with the two tank Moogles not being tanked away from the king.

Attempt two, my internet cuts out as soon as we pull. I reconnect shortly and manage to get back in just in time to kill the BRD Moogle before the Good King is summoned again. For some reason, the PLD (who hasn't been moving up to this point, at least since I got back) types "wipe?" in the party chat. We obviously do not wipe to the phase transition. DRK friend picks up the tank Moogles, we DPS go about our business of blowing things up... and the PLD just stands there. DRK asks them to pick up the King. PLD stands there. So now our WHM friend is tanking the main boss while the rest of us clean up the Moogles and the second WHM handles the bulk of the other healing that needs to be done. Things continue this way until Good King Moggle Mog XII is dead. It would figure that we get an AFK tank on one of the few trials that our DRG friend (who hasn't quite reached Heavensward) has unlocked that actually benefits from having two tanks... The kicker was that we noticed the crown next to the PLD's name on the way out.

TL;DR: AFK mentor PLD on Thornmarch: Hard helps to prove that WHM is secretly a tank job. Once again, not really a horror story, but more of an eye-roller.

Moogle wiping

It is possible, though painful, to tank both the king and tank moogles at the same time. That's not what causes wipes. What does cause a wipe is either attacking the king too much while the adds are still alive, or not being able to kill the moogles in the first phase (which I found out by trying to solo it a few months ago).

Thanks for the insight! Given that Thornmarch was already old by the time I'd joined the game, I'd never seen what happened if the DPS went straight for the king. Guess that wipe was a DPS derp then (and whatever happened was apparently corrected for the second run). I do feel a little better knowing the tank wasn't the source of the wipe, I suppose. At least they were a passive hindrance instead of an active one.

Well it depends tho. Since the fight wasn't intended in anything above ilvl 90/110, getting the king down to 76% while adds are alive, will cause the wipe. Now back in HW, I did notice that just auto attacking the king as a tank, can and will cause that issue, especially if dps is very slow. Most of the time I did have to do this pull -> combo once for aggro/hate -> turn around so auto attack would be disabled. I can just imaging how quicker it will go with now down sync'd SB tanks.

Now lots of people don't know that, hence you mostly find tanks just combo'ing the king, or using 1 skill, still gets the king very easily and quickly to that percentage mark, without even trying. Others and mostly SMN's and SCH's, not knowing this as well and putting a dot on the king, making that thing lose it's hp even faster.

Whatever the reason was, at least you guys fixed it at the 2nd try, but I am most likely to believe, that it was the tank itself for not knowing, or thinking the hp threshold was much lower. Because I think don't count me on that tho, that trial is the only one, that causes a wipe when ignoring mechanics aka little moogles are still being up, at 76%. Sure there's leviathan, but that's at a much lower percentage tho. Anyways point is, can't always blame the dps or healers, because there's a lot of things a tank could do wrong and has done wrong throughout trials/dungeons, and mostly gets unnoticed because people figure it's always the healer or dps at the end.

Also want to points out that two Garudas on auto can cause a wipe to Mog King.

I went into Omega for some practice (Id literally only done v1-v3 first time, earlier that day)

V1: Easy as, straight through, no problem.
V2: As above, ate an Earthquake but no deaths, fun fight.
V3: Wipe because noone would stack and half the dps spent their time chewing the ground. Back to the start and the OT starts going ballistic calling us a idiots and s*** tier players. It was glorious to behold his frothing indignance. Then one of the healers dropped the following.

"Hey superstar, pick up your dragon and stfu."

Also want to point out that you no longer need to be facing enemies to auto-attack it as of 4.0.

Gf and I are having a day. ._.

First we do DS normal together. My rolls are garbage and I'm getting frustrated because even after 3 run throughs of all 4 floors, I still don't have my loot. So I quit for a bit while she does v1 without me. She uses LB3 at the end and rolls on loot before going into /gpose to take pictures of the LB3, party yells at her for not rolling on loot... even though she had... and even won her weekly loot.

Then we do leveling roulette. We get Sirensong or Suishi, I forget which. She's on BLM and I'm on SCH. We get a tank who either has broken gear or doesn't know how to hold aggro 'cause she is ripping aggro off in within 2-3 spells. He keeps yelling to start using her enmity reduction skills, which is only Diversion, which she has been popping. She even had a CD macro for it. So she decides to stop using Fire IV and just AoE like she would at level 50. Still ripping aggro. So she stops AoEing and just single target Fire I's and rotates when she starts getting yellow on mobs. Still ripping aggro. At this point the tank is pretty mad and says that she hasn't been using Lucid Dreaming. She and I both say she's a BLM and that taking Lucid Dreaming on a BLM isn't worth it just for the enmity dump. Tank launches a vote kick, other DPS accepts, she gets kicked, so I book it too.

I take another break, because now I'm mad again. She decides to run expert. Ends up with some weird tank who keeps /slapping her and /laughing at her for whatever reason. Not from our server, so we just shrug it off. Still weird. After that we just started running full premades for the rest of our roulettes.

taking Lucid Dreaming on a BLM isn't worth it just for the enmity dump.

When I first started SB, Diversion, Lucid Dreaming, and Mana Shift weren't even in my default setup. Then I ran into DF tanks and healers.

Now I always need all 3 of those skills in my bars, with the other two slots being taken up by Swiftcast and Surecast. Every night, I kiss Erase goodnight and cry.

I've been getting a lot of commendations for doing very mediocre work as a BLM today and i'm not totally sure why.

For the first half of the day i'd been flubbing my aoe rotation because of how clunky it is pre-70, and i only recently learned what my single target rotation completely entails (I'd only been doing as many fire 4s as i had hearts because that's all i had time for, then i realized i can lengthen the duration with another fire. It blew my mind)
