Ah, forgot about them. It'd be nice to get a bit more official lore/story about why interracial couples are so shunned, and if it's only that way in Eorzea or if other places/cultures are more open to it.

Yugiri mentions that Domans know little about the Steppes, and consider the Xaela and their culture to be strange and foreign. We also see Lyse telling a bunch of confused kids from a nomadic culture that "it must be hard" to move all the time. Gotestu is downright offensive, denigrating the cultural practices of the Dotharl because they're weird to him.
Speaking from personal experience, interracial relationships aren't universally accepted here in the real world. Imagine bringing home a boyfriend or girlfriend of another race, and how your family would react. Now imagine if your significant other had horns and a tail, or was only tall enough to reach your knees. When the differences between races are much more significant than things like skin color, eye shape ad hair texture, I don't think you need involved lore about why interracial couples in Hydaelyn are shunned.

Oh, that's interesting. That must be specific to a female WoL, because my boy didn't get that response.
@Miyha: Yes I was a bit like "O_o" at the Cirina part. Also us Xaela females always look cute thanks to our built so not sure why we are not ethereal. x) And you are right, Sadu is the complete opposite of what he wants but maybe deep down he would love to have a warrior partner but is afraid of getting someone on the same level as himself. (Or he himself does not really know what he wants)
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

This is true, I just don't always apply irl logic/social considerations to the in-game world. I guess with the few interracial/implied interracial couplings that haven't necessarily been "shunned" (mainly in terms of NPCs taking an interest in your character regardless of your race, *cough*HAURCHEFANTQQ*cough*... and a few others I can think of), I had my hopes up.Yugiri mentions that Domans know little about the Steppes, and consider the Xaela and their culture to be strange and foreign. ...I still do. HienxCirina needs to happen. They can be pioneers for interracial acceptance! D:
:O Do you remember what he said to you?
I don't think he knows what he wants, looool. I think he just wants love. I wanna see him and Cirine make up and get hooked up.
He could be her strength (she can fight, but she's still a bit timid) and she could be his tempering and refinement. They would work well together once they learned to live with each other, each complementing each other's weaknesses.
It's a perfect love story setup. Enough tension to keep the marriage interesting, but yet they fit well together.

Honestly, Cirina/Magnai strikes me as a recipe for disaster. She's not a pushover, but I feel like he'd just overwhelm her and wouldn't listen. I like him with Sadu because she will push back hard. That said, I don't quite know how it would work with Sadu being the khatun of the Dotharl. She's not going to give that up to be Magnai's wife.I wanna see him and Cirine make up and get hooked up.

(My headcanon, of couse, is that Magnai looks into my WoL's eyes and realizes that his Moon is a guy.)

That's definitely a gameplay and story segregation issue, because an Ishgardian falling for an Au Ra is a little weird. But half the NPC's in this game are Warrior of Light-sexual, so I just have to chalk it up to that. This is true, I just don't always apply irl logic/social considerations to the in-game world. Alliance or merging of both tribes. With lots of bad blood in between. I think it will make for a great series of side quests for Magnai/Sadu.

I really do want to see the WoL be the Yenta of the Steppes.
