Make retainers accessible by other players

Of course you only give people access you trust and/or you only store things on that particular retainer that ARE for everyone to use. Otherwise it would be your own fault, the same way as if you store something in the company chest. So there is absolutely ZERO potential abuse involved in this feature (or at least no more or less as with company chests).

And company chests are good and well for cooperating with your FC mates, but there are plenty of occasions where I wish to cooperate with people not in my FC, and there is no way right now beyond the slow trading of goods directly.

Oh, sweet... sweet innocent person. I wish the world was only smart and savvy people that took responsibility for their actions.

The abuse potential is for scammers and the like. Convincing someone to give them access for this or that, then decimating their retainers. I'm sure you would never be foolish enough to fall for that or put items you didn't want to lose in a shared retainer, but some people would. Then they'd complain to SE, and reports and actions would have to be taken. I'm going to side with the other commenters, there is far more potential for grief than good in this feature.
