I need to quote this for emphasis: character customization in MMOs (and most games, really) is HUUUUUGE.

WoW's new transmog catalogue system means you can go into any dungeon/raid from whenever and collect glamour that you can use to create presets and assign to yourself immediately afterwards. If you've had it in your inventory and bound to you, it's added to your catalogue, which means collecting glamour is now a very real thing.

I literally spent more of Legion chasing down cool transmogs than I did actually playing new content.

The glamour system in FFXIV is just clunky and annoying by comparison to WoW's, Wildstar's, and even Aion's. We either need a glamour catalogue or glamour slots where we just equip items on a 2nd equipment screen that displays them on our character.

No, it's naive to think that they would treat it as a temporary solution. They'd half-ass your suggestion and then call it good and wonder why everyone is still upset.

I resubbed to WoW after many, many years of being away back in December. I haven't even bought Legion yet and I've been perfectly content farming old content and leveling alts to collect armor appearances.

I'm not at all lying when I say that if SE implemented a real, legitimate glamour log on par with other AAA MMOs, they would pretty much guarantee my sub for life.

I had a lot of fun even just populating my Orchestrion log when it came out; a fashion log would be the one thing possible to send me back into tired old dungeons full of glee. And it would revitalise the fun of crafting glamour gear, whereas I currently see my omnicrafting as insurance against future fashion droughts rather than something I actually use. I never actually make any of the things to wear, because I can't store any of it.

At this point I'm already kind of collecting random stuff I don't need just in case it happens one day. Making gear irrelevant in POTD and PVP now rewards making random sets of silly clothing already. They have to be working on a proper log, right? Even the most hardcore glamour addicts cannot possibly store everything the way things are, even with extra retainers, and that means less money coming in when they start slowing down their cash shop glamour purchasing.

No, that was about why we can't glamour any appearance to other jobs. This request is for the exact opposite, the ability to avoid glamouring jobs the same. We want not only to have healers who look like healers, but to have white mages who can look like white mages while scholars can look like scholars and astrologians like astrologians.

(There are other threads requesting some or all of the class/job locking removed from the glamour system. I support the ones that exclude AF from those requests, keeping those items class/job locked. But in either case, it's a different subject.)

Yup, and as Serilda called it, a "Fashion Log" would be a perfect addition to the game.

It doesn't matter if it's stolen from WoW. Major MMOs steal from each other all the time, and WoW has stolen some things from FFXIV (and vice versa of course).

As I posted some days ago here, I totally agree with this to be included in the game.
As jobs keep growing in number this gets more evident as something needed. I'm also tired of having to either find a compromise between how all jobs that share gear need to look or have to use not the best gear to allow a minimum of variability to the mix.

Please, consider this for near patches.

Added a third idea as well. Relic armor.

Another form of horizontal progression would not be a bad thing. Plus it would be job specific, and be on par with tome/savage gear just like relic weapons were. Honestly I would love job specific equipment for different melds because some job rely more on one sub stat than another.

I forgot to point out something extremely relevant to this discussion...

One of the key things preventing me from buying glamour gear from the Mogstation is how much of a PITA the current glamour system is. This means I'm literally refraining from giving SE money because of the way the glamour system works.

I'm already not keen on the idea of having to keep stacks of glamour prisms on my full-to-bursting retainers, but factor in tracking down each individual item I want to project (which also need to be stored on retainers) and at some point it just becomes more of a hassle than I want to deal with, especially when the process repeats anew every single time I acquire a piece of gear I need to glamour over...

To glamour ONE item, I need to:

    -go to the summoning bell
-figure out which retainer has the gear I want and summon that retainer
    -select "Entrust or withdraw items"
-transfer the item to my inventory
-determine which type of glamour prism I'll need
-craft or buy a glamour prism (add extra steps for acquiring a clear prism and the necessary crafting materials)
-select the item I want to cast the glamour onto
-find the item with the appearance I want in the list
    -cast the glamour
-return said item to the correct retainer

...And multiply that by every item, every time you want to glamour something.

Compare this to WoW's current system:

-Go to a transmog NPC in any major city (or summon the mount that has one built in)
-Select from the glamour presets you've created previously that want applied to the entirety of your character (which is WoW's equivalent of filling your retainer with glamour items)
-Click confirm and the glamour preset will be applied to every item your character is wearing and you will be charged a small fee

Never mind the fact that WoW's current system takes up NO inventory space, and WoW doesn't have even a fraction of the focus on crafting and subsequent overabundance of crafting mats that FFXIV does (while I love XIV's focus on crafting, I'm far less of a fan of inventory management).

Long story short, character customization in games tends to mean more to players than the gameplay itself (just look at TF2 and people paying 3,000 real-world dollars for virtual...hats...).

The glamour items on the Mogstation lose a lot of their appeal with the current glamour process being as cumbersome as it is and the fact that those items will be taking up an inventory slot on your retainer forever.

To be completely honest I'm not really annoyed about having all my healers look like my healer glam, all my crafters look like my crafter glam, etc... but, having what you described added as an -optional- feature, an extra extra feature to split customization further where wanted, yeah, that would be a nice feature! Can't really argue about that. Sure I'll vote for this!
