One of those classic complaints that I've been having way too often, lately.

If you, my fellow tank, see me jump into Grit before the fight starts, it means I want to MT. If you don't choose your stance by the time healers have protect and shields up, you make it clear you want to OT.

So why are so many tanks going into tank stance after I've already plunged the boss and started my aggro rotation? I've had to remind several of them in chat to swap to DPS stance -- and since I'm on controller, mechanics happen or they rip aggro away by the time I'm done typing.

If you want MT, just say so before the fight. If I see the other tank taking the boss, positioning them and buckling down, I'll drop Grit. But when this happens, it's always an OT who stays grouped up with the DPS and risks a cleave.

just got xelphatol on my DK with a friend as a ninja, straight away one dps and the healer go F this the tank has boosted to 60 and left the group, we get a new dps right away and proceed to clear to first boss when we get new healer and we clear everything with ease

now i know some people hate people that have boosted but please stop assuming they are a complete new player and not someone who has actually played the game for a number of years or in my case day 1 lol. granted my main is a dps and always has been but its not like i dont know the fights lol

I don't tank very often, but I do keep one leveled for helping friends or FC members. I mainly leveled my DRK by doing roulettes daily and spamming Aery/Vault/Gubal, so there is still some content I am unfamiliar with from a tank perspective and some stuff that I never queue for as a tank because it is not my favorite role. So having finished gearing my MNK (main) and leveling my WHM it was time to remove the dust from my greatsword and level my DRK from 60 to 70.

I queue for Trials Roulette and get Thornmarch, a trial I never did as a tank. From all the other times I have been there as a DPS or Healer I remember one of the tanks just standing there with the King while the other pulls the tank Mogs asside and deal with them as the rest of the party burn through Mogs on a priority list.

Trial starts, I'm in a group with another DRK, who immediately gets Darkside on but no Grit, so I just go ahead and prepare to tank. While I wait for the healers to Protect us the other tank gets impatient, runs ahead and pulls the boss without ever putting his tank stance on, so I was like "ok, in for an interesting start aren't we?". First phase goes well, second phase starts and the other guy still has Grit down, so I figured it would be best if I pulled the tank Mogs asside and let him deal with the boss (you don't need tank stance for that, just let him slap you).

From this moment onwards things go terribly wrong, the boss is running around, people are dying, I'm barely getting any heals and have to focus on keeping myself alive while the boss runs around and the other tank is doing god knows what. Then out of nowhere the other tank has a massive fit and starts texting in all caps screaming I should be tanking the boss and asking what I'm doing, never for a moment considering aggroing the boss it seems.

I see the incoming wipe so I just take my time to explain what I usually see people doing in this fight as tanks, but the other guy was still super mad about it saying I should know better because I completed this fight before and demanding my head. I assume he started a vote kick because I wasn't even allowed to stay in the fight long enough to see a second pull.

I may have remembered that fight wrong, and sorry if I did, but dude what the hell? Take a chill pill, people can make mistakes.

just an odd experience anyway we get to the part with the tank busters so susno starts casting stormbringer so i do the usual defensive cd shirk what for him to finish cast in then sunso turns around hits the other tank with storm bringer
r killing then then goes back to attacking me

I have MT'd and OT'd that Thornmarch thing plenty of times, and when it goes bad because of tanks, it is always the other tank not making up their mind which they want to be, and once doing their job, not stancing/playing appropriate to their choice. My last time through that encounter, PLD said in chat "I want MT" and then proceeded to MT...in Sword Oath, and not use CDs of any kind apparently. I did my OT thing with the WAR/PLD adds and all that, but when he died I got yelled at for not tank swapping. Maybe 4 peple chimed in to say that's not how the fight works and I did the right thing, ad maybe I should MT and he should OT. He quit, we got a new PLD, everything went fine.

The two lower end trials that get people mad at tanks for no reason are King Mog and Bismarck. Especially OTs who do what they are supposed to. It looks for all the world like you aren't because you keep away from MT for a good portion of both fights, but that's the way those fights work. I hate both of them simply because even when I do my job well, someone gives me and/or the other tank a bunch of crap because they don't know the fight but think tank blaming is cool.

King Mog is a great fight for clueless DPS who don't watch the video first. Always fun chat logs in that trial.

Had a healer not have protect, told me it was a placebo and I was like ok, no biggie, your choice we can clear. Died twice on 2nd boss and i he yelled at me for pulling without explaining mechanics and was vote kicked. Did we die because of no protect, no, but what really got me was when I scrolled up after being kicked and saw there was no bonus so I was just confused on why I had to explain mechanics.

I for one have no idea what the other tank wanted to do. He pulled without grit, didn't want to aggro the boss and never tried to aggro the tank mogs away from me. Maybe he was expecting me to tank only the boss or the boss + tanks while he play pretend DPS?

did lvling roulette yesterday on my brd with my friend who was tanking and ended up in sohm al normal.

Had a leafy whm healer who struggled with the big pulls. she kept us alive but her mp was drained a lot from merely spamming Cure II and nothing else.

So i thought id give her a piece of advice to help.

I dropped 2-3 lines and immediately after she took penalty and left the dungeon...the other random dps followed her and left too.

I dont know... is it because I didnt put enough happy smilies and hearts that I was perceived as possibly rude and hostile?

I think its more, regardless of how polite, nice, kind, sincere, genuine etc you are with your advice.

There will always be people out there who will always react negatively to it, they can't take any form of criticism against their play-style.

Some people are just very adamant to play how they want regardless of how much it may hinder or ultimately stress them.

Or that person could have just been an alt troll and was just waiting for someone to call them out so they could leave you in the lurch.

When I read your screenshot, while I agree you were being helpful and not hostile, your message came out more like a command than a suggestion. I think that if you added an "if" to the "put up Medica II..." message so that it becomes "if you put Medica II and Regen..." it would play out more like a suggestion and they may not have taken it too hard. No need for smilies and hearts at all. Again, not your fault or intention. It's a nuance of written communication. Then again, this is just MY perception as I prefer suggestions, not commands when it comes to an interaction with strangers in an online game. NaesakiAshwell is right as well. Some people can't take criticsm.
