Why is the maintenance for NA servers in prime time NA?

Simple. They are in japan. It is 4:43am there right now. They do maintance during their business hours.

You'd think, considering that North Americans are the biggest player base, that they'd try balancing things around our schedule. One gets tired of being treated like an unwanted guest instead of a primary customer.

Except EU and JP combined outweigh the NA playerbase, so its effecting the least amount of people.

New player here. Is maintenance every other day a normal thing for FF? Probably just a bad first impression, however, from my perspective this seems like the norm?

This Tuesday introduced the new raid, Thursday introduces the endgame crafting and gathering rewards.

Since Heavensward, they've been doing a maintenance patch every Thursday immediately following a new Tuesday patch. I think the logic was that they do it to introduce new crafting gear, but they don't want that new crafted gear to affect the first few days the new raid is live (due to the importance of crafted accessories on high end raiding).

However, that justification really doesn't work all the time. I remember the Thursday patch after 3.5 was released, they had maybe one slight change to crafting that could easily have been implemented on Tuesday without removing servers for 3 hours.

I guess they've developed a maintance schedule they like, but cutting into playtime immediately following a major content release is just dumb.

While I sympathize, normally they do these hotfixes when something is REALLY wrong. Like, game breaking bad.

I imagine this one has something to do with characters being eaten by server transfers (Or I hope so for those people).
