Well just got this message, tried to go to Ixion but the zone is too crowded for all of us that want the FATE to even go in. So, it goes without saying that this is pretty ridiculous considering that "later" the FATE won't be up and there won't be any reason for me to even want to go there.

I don't care if the zone is congested and I don't want to try again later, just let me zone in so I can do the FATE.

...you know that when the the zone that is congested lets you in you wont be able to do the Fate but instead just cause a mass-DC, right?

I get that the "solution" right now is not ideal but "just letting everyone in" isnt an option either without having the whole thing crash...

Does this work in other parts of your life? Like when on the freeway during rush hour and it backed up.

It's keeping you out so that the people already there can actually do the fate instead of DCing.

So let's say the shoe was on the other foot. You were already in and people were trying to get into the full instance... Would you rather:
A) Keep them out so that instance doesn't crash out and burn
B) Let them in, have everyone in the instance DC, followed by the instance resetting itself (and thus I believe also despawning the FATE)

Just love how this system "forces" people to sit in the zone to keep slot for themselves for Ixion spawn. There has been cases where some people have straight up declined all other in-game activity since Ixion could spawn and they don't want to risk it. If you ask me, I think this is bad game design.

Was waiting Ixion earlier, decided to go do daily hunts for some experience and centurios. Ixion spawned and I couldn't get back to Lochs since it was full.

A possible solution could be you get a timed amount of access to each area, say per day or something. If the instance fills up and you've used your time, you get teleported out. To cover it lore wise (since SE loves to make everything work lore-wise), just have aetherial corruption cause your character to be teleported against your will.

This sucks, and I know I'm going to get flames to high heaven and called to never post on the forums again for this idea (not by you specifically, I mean more in general), but I do believe we need to look for solutions that aren't simply "Buy more server capacity" since it's blindingly obvious that FFXIV's spaghetti code makes it impossible to scale it. They need to fix it aye, but I don't think they will because there's not enough profit to be had from it compared to the workload involved.

If you ask me, I think this is just a bad choice people are making for themself.
Those people who are camping this FATE now decided that they needed the mount now - they're the only ones forcing them(self) to stay in that zone and neglect the rest of the game. If getting the mount is this important for them... sure...

Dont get me wrong: I'd like to have Ixion in time aswell, FFX is my favorite game of the series after all. But I know that just as it was with every other big Fate, that once the hype is gone and everyone calmed down a bit (a few people might got their mount already and dont care anymore), I'll get mine aswell - without the instance crashing.

Is it really bad design when they plan for the long run instead of for the first two weeks after release? I wouldnt say so - this is one of the longterm goals we've got in the game. If some people need it now and are willing to make the needed sacrifices for it: their choice, alright, have your mount, feel special because of it.

I know this situation isnt ideal and that a lot of people wont like my personal solution of "just wait til the hype is gone nad you'll be able to get your shot", but I like that the devs arent only releasing content that is relevant for the 2-weeks-hype but will give me something to do over time.
I know I'll be playing this game for quite a bit longer - I can wait, I dont need everything now, thats my choice. If you do - thats your choice. Now the question is ofc: Whos happier...?

Just felt a bit frustrated knowing that I had just stayed there a little while longer, I would have gotten two more items towards the mount - and instead got "punished" for leaving the zone and going to actually play the game meanwhile.

I know one player who absolutely wants the mount, I don't really care that much, happy with my Chocobo. He sat in Lochs for two days straight, waiting for it. Then he decided to accept help request from another Free Company member.. and sadly Ixion spawned and died while he was inside 70 trial fight.

It's just you never know when it will spawn - during toilet break, while you sleep, making dinner?

Which is why camping it is generally a stupid waste of time. I'll go there and do my crafting when it's open and I have a lot to craft and I do some gathering in the Lochs anyway, but you're going to waste so much time if you just camp it. This is one of those fates people will still be doing later, unlike most of the other boss fates, so there's no real rush and you can count on getting it eventually just by making it a priority to show up when it's called.
