Presuming that you can only call your companion at times when focus targets don't matter anyway, set your companion as your focus target and use the <f> tag for actions targeting him.

Using a combo of the above-mentioned solutions also works nicely, in the event you're partying with a friend or solo with a companion. Here's the Nascent Flash variation I'm now using.

Replace Nascent Flash with any other skill you wish to use instead on your friend/companion (for whichever group variation you have).
