Well that really sucks. Its even possible without a heal. Sorry that you had such an experience.
I applaud you for actually wanting to watch and care about the story. Many today - even new players - do not, and just want to get through it as quickly as possible. This isn't to speak of those who get those ARR story dungeons in some roulette that want to get through in record time to move on to the next thing.
As many have said already in this thread, that should be the last you have to worry about those type of things happening. Even in the 2.x series of patches, they fixed things quite a bit and put the cut scenes generally after you hit the "Exit" once a dungeon is finished, instead of scattered throughout a dungeon. There may be short 10-15 second cut scenes when you enter a dungeon or greet the final boss, but that's about it, and in many of those cases (especially at the start of a dungeon) other players are barred from moving forward until you're done.
So, at least the dev team learned from their mistakes and it won't happen again going forward. Hope you enjoy the story!
Sadly, I have seen a good plenty of people get kicked for watching custscenes
I feel for the OP and I know the issue. I have recently run though both of the last 2 dungoens of the ARR story line on an alt with the sprot turn on just to see how people treat new players. I was disapointed since people force everyone to skip the cutscenes and not explaining boss mecanincs and "view the cutscenes in the inn room" is not an answer. OK in my case its besides the point weither I viewed the CS or not but still disapointing that new players are treated this way in these 2 dungoens
Age of War
people really need to start warning new players on this. this is thread number 40. how many more till the community starts warning people, and FC/LS/NN bring players through these so they can watch the CS and do the content. It is a cool build up to fighting ultima, yiu feel like you are part of a big operation.
Also do not spread misinfo, SE never said anything about these. And in fact have done similar, here is a fairly long CS between final boss part 1 and 2 in ARF. Each boss has a cs. yet no one complains in those. lol
But ya start warning people please. Even in shouts in the starter cities.
If you pay attention closely (or not so closely) you'll see that final sequence is just a dog and pony show more for having a spectacular experience than to challenge your acquired FFXIV skills. For instance (you may have noticed) in the one going after the Ultima Weapon, some of the bosses die still with plenty left on their health bars.
The video clips are part of the show. Should one be expecting the usual "dungeon" (I hate that word - instance) experience then of course it's disconcerting, so the vets I've played with are quite helpful in orienting noobs. Of course, this far into the game one knows to hit ESC to kill the video clip.
The clips end up in your library and can be viewed at leisure later.

The fact that they've made sure never to repeat what they did in CM/Prae, even for the final dungeons of 3.0 and 4.0, says enough. Actions tend to speak louder than words. Also do not spread misinfo, SE never said anything about these.
You don't get Verity tomes for the MSQ roulette, you get Poetics.I completely sympathize with you and am sorry your experience in Prae was not good. Unfortunately this issue is a catch 22. On the one hand no one was doing old content like that and someone like you who is just starting to get into FF14 and run the final ARR content would literally never be able to queue up and actually finish the main story leaving you pretty much stuck not being able to get into Heavensward content. This is why SE decided to make it rewarding i.e. XP for leveling or Verity for level 70 classes, so that people in your situation would be able to get these things done.
should you know, look at oit from their pov. That is a bit of a prob with the NA DC, they can't look past their own nose. How many threads will be made till you and ppl like you kinda get it?If you pay attention closely (or not so closely) you'll see that final sequence is just a dog and pony show more for having a spectacular experience than to challenge your acquired FFXIV skills. And you know warn people?
