Balmung is a bit of an oddity in terms of prices. On Odin, the only person I've seen selling a large plot was charging 80m for it. Square Enix's fix is to just get people to move. Now once all worlds have all plots filled up, then I reckon they'll throw an extra ward on each world. Too much demand for new content I believe takes away time for them to properly sit down and fix it. So they'll just keep throwing band-aids at it.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Paying for housing can be a double edged sword since the profit margin can easily fall to the red if people stop paying for it.

Think about this, say if this process made it where they needed 2k/month to keep the houses around and they were charging a total of 2.5k a month to use those plots.

Then say suddenly 1.5k dollars stop paying into it, so now SE is paying 2k/month at a 1k/month loss, which is something they wish to avoid, which is why they can't tie heavy resource content like Housing into a Mog station system.

You say that. Yet I've actually seen a number of F2P MMORPGs that have instanced housing. So if some shoddy ass F2P garbage can handle it then I'm pretty damn sure a P2P MMORPG like FFXIV should be able to handle the server space needed for it.

Exactly, Square isn't some indie company. This is SQUARE ENIX, they got no excuses.

They built A Realm Reborn wrong from the beginning and it would take an entire re-haul again to have good servers.
You havent seen many MMOs, my friend.

So you can't ever find a small or medium plot? All the apartments and FC rooms are gone too? Or is this just that you want only a large plot and nothing other housing feature will do? You got two choices now, more or try your hardest to get a plot in Shirogane.

On a side note, do people even understand how "instance" work or are you just using it as a buzz word?

Because it's a terrible idea. Housing should NOT be on the cash shop. We need instanced housing that EVERYONE gets for FREE. We need Rift or WildStar's housing system, not yet another excuse for SE to tack on money to people's subs.

Lotro, Lord of the rings online, a game that launched a DECADE ago, has ff14 style neighborhoods that auto-generate when they fill up. How this game is doing housing is clearly insane.
Worth noting that LOTRO also has some pretty severe restrictions on housing, namely that you are significantly more limited in the number of items you can place. Items only go in predetermined "hook" locations...
For the exterior, this means 4 exterior items and 1 doormat for small houses, their medium houses get 6 exterior items and 1 doormat, and their big "Kinship" (FC/guild) houses? All of 11 exterior hooks and 1 doormat...and all of those are specific locations on the plot, versus the free-form placement we have in FFXIV (with 20, 30, and 40 exterior slot limits right now). You also don't get to change how the house looks, which is another restriction - what's there is what's there, no changing at all.

Clearly there was a trade-off to be able to have as many houses available as they offer, namely significantly less possibly changing data in a persistent instance. They would not offer the amount of housing districts they do if it worked the same way ours does in terms of decoration and relative freedom, and it's not as simple as "They offer more housing, why can't SE?"

Which ultimately highlights the limitations of both systems, and why instanced house plots, while losing out on the neighborhood feel the current wards have, would offer the best of both worlds and is ultimately the better solution.

Still doesn't mean the appearance log over in WoW counts as inventory slots. It's a solution to cluttered/overfull inventory slots, and a good one (though it too has limitations - it only saves appearance, not the gear itself, and making changes to gear data - namely the visual data via transmog - is handled at specific vendors at specific locations (I guarantee there's a reason for this restriction, and considering load on the server is one of them), but it is not a slot that allows you to move things into and out of it, and thus not an inventory slot.

It's really just a checkbox of sorts that something has been unlocked and is available for use, and if we count it then we should start counting unlocking dungeons and achievements in both games as inventory slots and at that point things just get silly.

And it's really all beside the point of my response, namely that most MMOs don't actually offer bigger inventories like the poster claimed (instead they offer better inventory, which is an important distinction).

Ok on the instancing of the inside of the house a large holds how many items currently? Could that not be split to total including outside and have space? They are already instanced inside they already have an item limit. Designate the whole area for inside and outside items. Oh no someone put a bathtub in the yard?

    From a different post.

But something strikes me as odd, besides the whole housing system. Are the inside of the houses are tied to the dungeon and quests servers? When they increased the number of instances for quests, people got locked out of their houses. Balmung already had lots of people afk in houses pre 4.0. Tin foil hat time. They haven't said they don't want everyone to have a house. But they don't have enough instances per data center and are afraid so they allow this gate to happen. I am sure some people remember waiting in ques when they didn't have enough level 50 instances. The game has to many instances and they just keep shuffling it around to try to hold it together.

To the cash shop pro or against. Enough people are pro, just give up. If the emotes that were in game. The mounts as much as a new game. The gear being half a new game per character. Those didn't make people blink nothing will at this point. Just hope something you would like isn't cash shopped, that's all that's left.
