The result? Unless you play on a low/medium pop server it can lead to servers crashing, which has happened in the past.

The more often it is up, the more someone can just come back later. The more they can just... ignore the spawning of the fate. Leading to less people taking part, meaning the overall difficulty of the fate does not get bloated cause remember: the more people taking part the more difficult the next one will be needing as many if not more people to do the fate. Which can escalate out of control the more rare it is. It also means less lag for everyone.

I would rather the rare content drop be in an instance, rather then out in the open world where someone could be having fun and come out of their dungeon run only to be booted by the server cause some uber rare fate spawned and crashed the server because of too many players in the zone.

In fact the Ixion mount should of been a rare drop in an 8 man Ixion trial. With other less important things coming from the fate tokens. With the fate having reasonably good uptime. As it is now you can get your horns from 1 gold run in an 8 man party that is mostly DPS, get your mount and that's it. The fate is now pointless to you. Just like the Fox Lady fate.

If you want the world to feel epic then what we need are more dynamic world shaping, even if only temporary, events. Something I saw being done in Firefall before it went to shit. There is never a sense of urgency in the open world, fates just... auto-cycle.

This is a statement with forethought & rational, logical reasoning, as are statements about the fate crashing servers. That's in contrast to Chromo's reasoning. He needs it to be rare, to feel epic. That's the end of it. Now, if he had tried to make the case that such content was actually a boon to the game, in terms of the sales pitch or overall retention of players (just for example), and then proceeded to back it up with solid evidence, then I'd be forced to concede that Square had made a wise decision. Until that happens...

By the way, Chromo. If you're reading this, may I make an observation? You're misusing "tbh". A friend of mine does the same thing. I say, "what, like you weren't already being honest? At any point in this conversation were you deceiving me and are only now choosing to be forthcoming?". I cringe every time.

Maybe peoples should stop announcing spawns and quietly gather their own group and kill it while rest of the server has no idea? i mean thats what i do when i see A or S ranks and would do same for these fates. There is no obligation to tell these things for whole server so why should you? you are only making it harder for yourself. It still baffles me when i see "ninja puller" comments in chat after A rank gets killed, there is no such thing as ninja pulling when it comes to hunting as person who finds it has all rights to solo it if he so chooses.

The Ixion and Fox Lady fates, like Odin and Behemoth before them, typically need around 25-50 people to be completed successfully.
